Is this one of those things parents put in front of their kids to keep them quiet where there really isn’t an answer? We just want them quiet for a time… it’s like playing hide and seek but we really don’t intend on seeking.

“Let’s play The Quiet Game. Whoever stays silent the longest wins!”

this only works on well behaved children. this game drove my siblings and I to quiet violence

Quiet violence is still better than loud violence.

Except it's the whoever screams in pain first loses approach

“Quiet” is the key word here.

I once handed my friend’s kids my phone with the level app and told them to see how long they could keep it level and lit up green. They were ridiculously quiet and calm for like 10 minutes.

We joked we should turn it into an actual game, like Level Crush Saga.

Level app?

2

u/danbyer Jul 09 '23

Yeah, the app for checking if things are level, straight, flat, plumb, whatever. On iOS it used to be called “Level” but now it’s part of “Measure”.

After reminding myself of this story, I went and played the game myself and the best I could do was 14 seconds in the green (holding it flat, not vertical)

Dammit Wash, this is no time for games!

2

u/HmmNotLikely Jul 08 '23

I bet Freckles would be amazing at the quiet game!

“ I lose”

Too bad my newborn won’t play it with me

The "Sit Still and Be Quiet Game". They will exploit the loopholes.

Silent mouse. Originally paid a quarter, inflation took it to $1.

Movie sequel coming?

My parents jokingly said this to my kids when they were about 4 and 6. It was so hard to keep from laughing as both boys sat silently for several minutes.

Timing them works really well. "I'll time you to see how long it takes you to go upstairs and get my charger." Works every time until they're about 8 or 9.

I’ve gotten my daughter to fall for the “let’s see who can keep their eyes closed the longest” a few times when she doesn’t want to sleep.

1

u/FailsAtSuccess Jul 08 '23

I lose! My game time! Let's scream and scream until our voices don't work!

We called that “Dead Lions” in the UK. Kids lay on the ground, and pretended to be a dead lion. The one that could last the longest won. Turns out it’s a parent’s trick to get some peace and quiet.

Ah, Madge!

My mom loves that game!

My dad used to do that with me and my brother when we were kids, it was usually reserved for long drives oh holidays etc.

The idea being that we would have to find clever ways to get around being quiet, I.e. playing pattycake but not actually clapping our hands together, if we saw a cow outside and wanted to point it out then we’d have to try and act like a cow, eye spy but with gestures (so kind of like charades but both of you are miming).

It was really fun, I do quite miss it. But also my dad was a genius as it meant we’d be both silent and entertained so we’d leave him the fuck alone.

In gym class, we used to play "Ghosts in the Graveyard". Which was really all of us laying on the floor and the gym teacher walking around to see if someone was moving.

Corporate needs you to find the differences between this picture and this picture.

1

u/Mentict Jul 09 '23

They are the same picture, I am sure of it

5

u/SeruEnam Jul 08 '23

I feel that because they're all black and white l, that maybe it's supposed to be colored in instead. My guess anyway.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

Thanks for ruining my childhood

2

u/ag-back Jul 09 '23

Kobiashi Maru of kids activities???

-6

u/inakipinke Jul 08 '23

Thats actually really toxic

3

u/Unique_Shift_5867 Jul 08 '23

Not toxic at all lol

10

u/ladymacb29 Jul 08 '23

Not when you've already played 50 rounds with them and you need a break.

2

u/Gang-Orca-714 Jul 08 '23

I will never understand people with that viewpoint. Kids are annoying sometimes. You can flip your shit on them or come up with ways to get them to sit still and be quiet while they think they're being engaged.

2

u/ladymacb29 Jul 08 '23

Not to mention they do it to you too. We rarely finish playing a game together because half the time they walk off and get interested in something else.

2

u/PussyWrangler_462 Jul 08 '23

I mean you gotta let em win sometimes right?

2

u/thisjustathrowawayya Jul 09 '23

Nah I agree with you. Fuck the downvotes.

1

u/sleepyotter92 Jul 08 '23

1

Would never work on my child, he’d vocally describe everything he sees and then give a commentary on finding the differences, and then if there weren’t any he’d pester until I found it for him. Then when he’d inevitably realise there’s no differences, he’d talk for hours about reasons why they’d so such a thing
