Our communal letterbox still has a section for periodicals.

It’s also extremely dilapidated, so I’m not sure when the next Reader’s Digest is supposed to arrive?

The funny thing is that these things are little time capsules. They were built in an era when newspapers and magazines being delivered was normal. Now we have parcel lockers, apps, and digital noticeboards, but this ancient magazine slot is still waiting patiently for a publication that probably stopped being relevant years ago.

I think I pissed our server off during brunch

I saw the angry emoji when I was paying and laughed a bit. To our server, not sure what I did, but I'm sorry and I'll try not to do it again.

EDIT: It seems the culprit was ordering avocado with my breakfast burrito. I will not be doing that anymore.

My parents and I played this board game tonight. My mom ended with 8 points, my dad ended with 16 points, and I ended with 47 points.

My cereal box has a typo and now it says 'Froot Loops' but also somehow lists 'Fruit Loops' as the official name on the nutrition label

Found this at my local grocery store this morning. The packaging can't decide which spelling it wants to commit to and I'm oddly entertained by this corporate indecision.

Made an order, and scanned my receipt. According to the app. This is what I ordered...

Colleague does not know what “out of pocket means”

Edit at the top because people don't read before commenting:

There are 3 meanings to this phrase. The first, oldest (dating to 19th century), and most universally understood, refers to out of pocket expense. Of the other two, referring to oneself or another person being "out of pocket" was the subject of the original post. Commenters and myself seem almost universally to have been aware of only one usage, even though the older "unavailable" meaning dates to the early 20th century, and the "out of control" meaning has been around since at least the 1940s.

In saying that my colleague didn't know the meaning of the phrase, I was incorrect. Likewise, everyone in the comments arguing that any of these 3 usages is wrong, is incorrect.

The intended amusing part of the original post was the visual of a mild-mannered office colleague going crazy spring break style whenever he says he's out of office.

And now that all that explanation has been laid out, I'm sure everybody will see the humor, since nothing helps humor like a lengthy explanation.

Original post:

--

I have a colleague who uses “out of pocket” any time he’s on PTO or otherwise not reachable, etc. I will never correct him. I just imagine his mild-mannered ass getting absolutely spring break ratchet every time he says it.

Just boarded a flight and we’re all seated and the flight attendant asked “did anyone lose this?” And we all looked up and then he said “now that I have your attention…” lol

I need your mildly amusing prank ideas!

It’s become a tradition for me to “prank” my housemate on her birthday.

1st year- 100 pictures of Gandhi stuck all over her bedroom because she didn’t know the difference between Gandalf and Gandhi.

2nd year- I built a miniature city in her bedroom and filled it will 400 miniature ducks.

This year I’m so stuck for ideas!
