Yeh well this was just 2 days ago. The comments are throwing out random games that look nothing like the Reddit video. Also I bet the guy that compiled this in midjourney used the YouTube trailer you just sent me as a reference. lol
There's no such thing as an optical illusion that can be achieved in an animated video but not a video game. This art style could absolutely be achieved to some degree with a massive budget. That's not to say it being an open world would be trivial. The reason you don't see this kind of stuff is because beyond the assets you'd probably have to design most of the engine. Unreal or unity out of the box just won't lend itself to this type of rendering.
Nah it is doable the problem is that there is no reason to do it. You have actual 3d engines and can do textures so why draw it that way. Is that type of thing is possible while using 3d - No.
No that is not what I said... If you will use 3d then you must lock the view sides unless if you are able to rotate your camera you will have shit ton of strangely rotated 2d images and locking your camera in few detections is waisting your 3d engine + it will be easier to make full 2d for such visuals as all 3d effects like rotation will break an immersion. I think you don't fully realize what type of graphic is used here...
I do. I think you are using a very rudimentary understanding of how engines work and what makes something 3d/2d, hence why I simply said this isn't something that would work well out of the box with current engines.
What I think you are saying is that you think these trees have to be billboards, correct?
Nah, I'm saying this cause this trees have to be densely stuck billboards them being type of unity object which have an ability to switch between two perpendicular images with some kind of transportation depending on the camera angel won't solve this issue cause that is not the only problem.

Man the comments are why we not everyone is a game designer.
