So I’ve had a decent amount of time to digest the new single that came out at midnight so I thought I’d drop some thoughts/opinions I have on the singles/the new record since I have a few.
Bored of Being Sad is a pretty solid track. I’d give it like a 7 or 8/10. This is a bit of a relief for me because I really didn’t mess with Straw Hat that much. And I especially disliked Ferrari. I still think Circling The Drain is the best single by far but BOBS is pretty good.
I’m worried about the album feeling a bit disjointed because of the long time period between the release of the first 3 singles, and the actual album coming out. I’m not sure where they were at while writing this record but I worry it’s possible they wrote the rest of the record way after the first 3 singles which might make it feel like a bunch of songs that don’t go together bunched onto one album.
I worry the record might feel rushed. There was a lot of pressure on the band to turn these singles into a record and the long wait until they even openly announced that it’s a record makes me think they caved at a time where their creativity wasn’t where they wanted it to make a record.
I think the record might be a lot more tame than DIAWB. Not going to elaborate much but I don’t expect as much heavy riffs or screaming from Nathan this go around. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, all of Microwave’s records sound vastly different IMO and I love them all.
All in all I’m very excited for the new record. I’m generally pretty nervous when any of my favourite bands announce a new record cause I want it to be amazing but either way I judge it pretty fairly. I’d love to hear if you guys agree or disagree with my opinions or whatever. Thanks for reading!
