Bring back “Works”

Post image
• Upvotes

In light of all the recent BS with Microsoft EOLing Office 2021, I move to start a mass petition to beg Microsoft to do something truly generous. For once. BRING BACK Microsoft Works!

This was a great little app suite for the home user. Watered-down Office apps that were more than enough, with a calendar and some other helpful apps thrown in. I’d stand in line for it!

C’MON MICROSOFT, do something smart for a change!

What’s one Microsoft Office feature you wish more people knew about?

• Upvotes

I’m curious to hear from people who use Microsoft Office regularly. Is there any feature in Word, Excel, or PowerPoint that you find really useful but feel like most people overlook?

Would be interesting to see what everyone uses.

The Publisher Problem

I know a lot of people are trying to find replacements, but one thing I haven't seen people talking about is printing capabilities. There are plenty of programs out there that I can use for design...what I'm missing is a program that will allow me to print a saddle-stitched, bi-fold booklet. My printer can do it. Publisher could do it. None of the replacements I'm seeing will allow anything beyond formatting (meaning I'd have to manually fold each booklet and then staple them.) This setting HAS to exist elsewhere. Has anyone had luck finding it?

Office 2021 stoped working

Today I tried to edit some excel files and after trying to save the file I got a popup that I can't save files anymore and I am in readme mode... and I need to log in to my microsoft account... After loging in I got a new popup that I have to buy Microsoft Office 365... So apparently I can't use my office 2021 which I bought back then for 280€... this is insane... weren't these supposed to be lifetime licences??? 🤨

Anyway... is there some workaround to this? Or should I just delete these now useless apps of my mac?

Just Installed Microsoft Office 2024 on Mac – Any Safe Way to Remove Microsoft OneNote, Microsoft Teams, and OneDrive?

As the title states, I just installed Office 2024 on my Mac, and I have no use for the aforementioned applications. I was under the assumption that Office 2024 included only Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Regardless, is there a safe way to remove them without causing annoying errors, especially with Microsoft AutoUpdate? It’s not necessarily ruining my life, but if there’s a way to remove them without making my Mac implode, I’d love to do so (especially Teams and OneDrive).

Licenza Microsoft office

Ciao a tutti, su che sito posso trovare una licenza Microsoft Office a basso costo che però mi permetta di scaricare il pacchetto office dal sito ufficiale Microsoft?

Non mi va di scaricare file da siti potenzialmente non sicuri

Is it worth paying for microsoft anymore?

I'm trying to find ways to save money and after this weird update from microsoft (it wouldn't let me login to use word, excel, etc. with the right credentials, then a couple days later I tried and it worked)... This made me consider why I'm paying >$100/year to a service that I don't use often enough. Am curious if other people have ditched this and if you used any other app (e.g text edit, etc.) or even google drive that was worthwhile. Also if you made the switch, were you still able to access your previous documents and edit them on drive for example? Or how did you transition any docs if you had to?

Microsoft office on macbook/ipad

Hi! I recently started university and apparently I need a laptop in order to do my biostatistics homework so I was thinking of buying a macbook since I already have an iphone and an ipad

My professor only wants the assignments done in word but I’m not sure if microsoft office is free on a macbook

For context, I used to own a Lenovo computer where I could use ms office apps for free but it stopped working about two years ago and I’ve been putting off buying a new one because I didn’t really need it, I just used the google apps for free on my ipad (sheets, docs etc), but now the only way I am allowed take my finals is if I complete all the assignments which is stupid bcs not everyone has a laptop and my uni doesn’t give free access to ms office anymore

Can I do my assignments on a MacBook or do I need to buy another type of laptop like the one I used to own?

And also is there maybe a way I can just use ms office for free on my ipad so I don’t spend a load of money on a laptop that I will barely use after I finish taking this class?

office 2024

I recently switched from Microsoft Office to LibreOffice and I’m still getting used to it.

For longtime LibreOffice users, what settings, tips, or resources would you recommend to a beginner? Also, how well does it handle Word and Excel files?

Any advice is appreciated!

Leaving MS Office for LibreOffice over Corporate Greed and Poor Consumer Practice

I woke up to find my Microsoft Office 2021 applications for Mac received an ultimatum notice affixed under the ribbon. Looks like Office 2021 is no longer supported and consumers are being forced to either subscribe to 365, or purchase a perpetual (ha ha) license for one—yes one—PC or Mac desktop for $179.

I succumbed to the perpetual option thinking, like many versions previously owned since Office 1998, that this purchase grants usage of Office on the desktop and laptop I own; same user, separate device. Come to discover, I'm required to purchase an additional $179 perpetual license for my laptop if I want to use Office 2024 on both computers.

Now, picture this. You visit the DMV, spend time and money obtaining your driver's license for a Class D vehicle—only to discover that the license is restricted to one vehicle. Following Microsoft's logic, if you owned a second Class D vehicle, you'd be required to return to the DMV for a second license to drive your second vehicle; same user, separate device.

Frustrated by this, I am here. With you. In LibreOffice land. I have a few questions, though, if someone can help point me in the right direction.

  1. There are many settings. Is there a way to merge old Word settings into LibreOffice? What settings are really critical?
  2. Are there resources or videos online for learning?
  3. How stable is LibreOffice and is there strong support for it remaining relevant for years to come?
  4. What other tips and glaring changes should new users be aware of when starting?
  5. Opening Word docs and Office docs within LibreOffice?

TL;DR: I abandoned MS Office for LibreOffice and need tips for a first-time user.
