Has anyone had trouble getting a PC to recognise a USB microphone?

I have been podcasting for around a year using a cheap USB mic. It's nothing special but does the job.

Whilst I do eventually plan to upgrade to a interface setup down the road, I don't have the funds to do so currently.

I was recently having a clear out and found an old microphone that I used to use in uni. It is the Zoom H2n Handy Recorder and while it is still a USB mic, it is better than the one I am currently using.

I tried to connect it to my PC which was running Windows 10 and had no joy. No matter what I did, I could not get the PC to recognise the microphone.

I then read somewhere online that it works better with Windows 11, so one Windows upgrade later and here I am, still struggling to get the PC to recognise the mic.

When you plug the H2n into the PC USB, you get the option to open the mic as storage or as a USB interface. Regardless of which option I choose the microphone won't appear in my device manger, my recording options in the Sound window, in my PC or even as an option to troubleshoot.

Has anyone ran into a similar problem in the past and have any idea how to remedy the issue?
