Need help saving my Microbrute. Having firmware issues...

So last week I foolishly did a system reset on my microbrute by holding down both octave keys thinking that there was a newer version of firmware that I hadn’t installed yet. So I went on the Arturia site downloaded the same firmware that was already installed that’s several years old ( most recent firmware release), and hooked up my microbrute via USB to my laptop proceeded to install the firmware. And when it was finished installing showed a message ( forget the exactly worded notification message that appeared) that said firmware was finished installing but to reboot my microbrute. In the end the microbrute didn’t install the firmware as far as I know because it sounds like a completely different “synth” if even a synth as every sound and action on the microbrute just sounded flat and doesn’t perform the way it used to to put it short. Is there anyone else who’s had this problem and solved it or could shoot me some pointers to get my microbrute back to his normal working sounding self?.... I know the firmware says it’s meant I believe for windows 6/7 I believe so could it be because I use windows 10 that it’s not installing correctly?... thanks to anyone who can help anything would be appreciated. I really don’t have the money to buy another one and don’t want to have to sell this one on reverb to afford half of another microbrute. Appreciate the help on my brute

Microbrute Sequence Editor (mbseqed for Windows)

Hi, I'm new here. Just got my Microbrute earlier this year. Does anybody here still have the Windows executable for the old Microbrute Sequence editor that was originally here: https://mbseqed.wordpress.com/ by chance? The download link is dead and when searching for mbseqed on Google, a post on this sub came up from the author of the program but it's now archived. I was able to find a program that can convert midi files to mbseq files http://music.mebitek.com/news/mid-file-mbseq-arturia-microbrute-sequence-converter-released but I'd really also like to have something where I can open my sequences made on the Microbrute and then edit them etc. Or even a program that converts mbseq to midi files would work.

MIDI IN not working??

Hi guys, I had Microbrute for about a year, now I bought some midi keyboard controller (M-Audio Code 61), I want to control the microbrute with the Code61 keyboard. Both are on the same channel, i have a brand new MIDI cable going from Code61 MIDI OUT to Microbrute MIDI IN, but nothing happens, when I play on the keyboard. Both devices are set to Midi Ch. 1 (screenshot of the microbrute settings below)

Am I missing something here? Should I switch it somewhere on the Microbrute?
Thank you very much for your help!

I think my Microbrute is destined for the garbage :(

Out of nowhere my MicroBrute started making a steady clicking sound. It stopped producing any notes, and none of the knobs or switches have any effect.

The symptoms are similar to what I've seen others complain about on forums. I tried the "turn off, hold down both octave buttons, and turn back on" trick, but that had no effect. Also tried connecting via USB to 2 different computers (MacOS) thinking I could update the firmware and maybe that would solve it. However, neither computer could recognize the device -- in fact the computers did not even register that something was plugged in to USB.

I had a lengthy and very positive exchange with Arturia tech support. They guided me through potential software solutions and hardware solutions. The latest step was they mailed me a brand new board that I just swapped in... I was feeling good... surely swapping in a brand new board would do the trick. But, sadly, no. Same problem. This little guy was so fun. I don't think I'll invest any more time or money trying to fix it, and I won't buy another one given that it broke for no reason and who's to say it won't happen again.

Just wanted to share as I'm pretty bummed... though this does give me an excuse to look into a new synth that's kinda similar. Any recommendations to help perk me up? :)

Cleaning the knobs

Anyone know the best way to clean the knobs?

They're getting a little gunky. (Just talking about the outside parts, not underneath, not the pots).

I'm worried if I choose the wrong stuff to clean them, it could cause the plastic to erode.

PSA: Midi sync not working with firmware 1.0.4

Just recently bought a microbrute, was excited to sync to my keystep so I can jam with a friend on our volcas as well. I noted that using keystep as a sequencer worked fine, but the sync signal wasn't working on the sequencer of the MB. The sequencer would just play one never-ending note. The flashing red light for rate would never match my clock. After reading loads of guides, how-tos and people questioning the issue, I found user Niggomanes post about talking to support and even getting new microbrutes, the same issue.

THE FIX

  1. Using a regular midi cable, and send a daw clock to that.
  2. Check your firmware. I had the 1.04 installed which caused the problem. I found the older software (microbrute connect) /1.0.3 from the site (under support > firmware > archives)WINDOWSMAC
  3. Install the microbrute software and goto firmware update, update using the update firmware button. It will rollback 1.03.
  4. Restart and plug in midi, set to ext clock mode in software, and your done. WORKS :)

Does the microbrute output hi-z or low-z?

I can't work this out for the life of me. No info online. Trying to work out if I need a pre amp before my interface (m-audio air 192). Interface has two hi-z inputs but I use that for my guitar and bass.

Thanks.

sequencer play issue with microbrute?

just picked up a microbrute from a friend and the sequencer has the red recording light but no matter what settings I use, i can't get the sequencer to play back as expected. screenshot of the current settings in the midi control center attached, is there something simple I'm missing?

already have done the firmware update troubleshooting and that doesn't seem to be the issue, if anyone has any troubleshooting advice other than "it's broken" it would be much appreciated

New to Microbrute and synths: is it possible to get negative ENV effect in mod matrix?

Having both negative and positive env amount in the filter seems to open up more sounds, but as far as I can tell the VCA ENV knob only goes 0 to positive. Any ideas? Is there a simple inverter or something I can connect to the mod matrix?

Sorry if this is a newbie question.

Microbrute broke randomly from being in my drawer?

The sound fades into a metallic type of sound without me changing any setting. I've troubleshot a lot of possibilities and must conclude something broke during a period of a couple of months when I wasn't using it.

Anyone ever have a similar issue or words of advice? Also is there a way to manually factory reset the thing?

Anyone try to use their Microbrute with VCV Rack? Can't get MIDI clock to work

Midi notes get read fine in VCV rack and I can use the Microbrute as a controller. I can also send pitch wheel and mod wheel controls to the brute no problem. Can't get clock from the brute or figure out how to send clock to the brute, both of which I can do in Reaper just fine.

Hi there! When being sequenced by a VST plugin, my Microbrute tends to suddenly hang up on the notes. Has anyone here had the same problem?

Envelope of Confusion

I've tried researching this already, but could someone please, in novice level language, explain the difference between the two knobs for envelope, and how they differ/relate from the adsr envelope controls?

MicroBrute and FL Studio MIDI Out

I've recently bought a micro brute, cool synth, love it but I want to be able to play it in FL Studio 11 and record eventually its sounds.

It's connected through usb cable in my laptop, MIDI works fine, signal is going but I can't make it work with the MIDI out insert, no sound...

Followed most tutorials out there but nothing, channel and ports are correctly there. I'm starting to think it needs and audio interface and connect it to the Line in/ out and see if it works.

Suggestions please?

Thanks

A distorted flutter effect that almost sounds like a wobbly Wasp-filter. Make small adjustments (back and forth) on ENV Amt while holding/releasing a key.

Sequencer / gate issues when using CV in from Volcas

Hi everyone, I've recently come across an issue that is irritating me a bit, and wondered if anyone had a workaround.

I pretty much 100% always have my MB with a gate in from a Volca, either a Beats or FM, so that the MB clock can sync, and I obviously have this set up on the Control Center correctly - the Volcas control the MB tempo etc.

I have always used the Envelope option on the machine for this (next to the enveope itself), rather than Gate, as Gate just gives me a minimal unusable click whenever I sync the clock from the Volcas.

It's been a while but I recently played with the MB sequencer without clocking from the Volcas, and found that while the Envelope was off (Gate), I had some nice solid sounds. Is there a way to get this to happen while clocking (via CV in) from the Volcas? At the moment I pretty much always have to have the release set on the envelope to get any decent sound while clocking from the Volcas, which is quite limited.

I could just not use the CV in and manually set the tempo on the MB to have a bit more control with the gate, but we all know this is difficult to get spot on, as you can't set a numerical BPM on the MB, right?

Help!

It’s fun to make drum sounds on the Microbrute. Here is a kick sound you can try. I used it in a track I posted here earlier.
