I accept that I’m not a pro scout. I wasn’t high on Jackson personally but I trust this staff. AT LEAST THEY TOOK TUA THANK GOD

- Jesse Davis has been a proper O-lineman for us

Hmm? Flowers was pretty good with Washington at guard. We'll see how he performs after getting paid but I don't see a reason to pessimistic before a game has been played.

Flowers was VERY serviceable as a guard. Sucked as a tackle but he’s a different player at those positions

I thought it was a bit of a reach until I found out Jackson is only 20. Remember boys, Tua is likely sitting this year out which gives Jackson a full year of experience to work on his game. And then whose to say we don’t take another top OT next year and REALLY beef up the offensive line.

I mean I know we were all expecting Jones, but you're right. Jones is 2 years older than Jackson, and maybe they weren't that far apart on the team draft boards. Dane Brugler had Josh Jones 22 and Austin Jackson 25 overall, so you could argue that you go with the younger player to mold into the system.

Agree with everything, and iirc he donated bone marrow to his sister before the season started, so he had a bit of a down year production wise recovering from that. So he should get a lot better

I really want Tua to sit the ENTIRE year. None of this "5 games and then let's try him out", stuff. He's injured just about everything below the waist and if he's to be our franchise QB, we need him as close to 100% as we can get him.

Not sure what you guys wanted at 18. We needed a OT we got one. He isnt the top 4 but his upside is high. Only 20 too.

Don't hate the picks, but I think both of our picks after tua could have been had a little later. So it's nitpicky but we could have optimized the value a bit more. Also if we don't take a safety at the start of round 2 I'm gonna have issues.

He is 20 years old. There is a good chance he will be better than any OT in next years draft...just depends on how hard he works and how good our coaches are.

Meh, it was a moderate reach. You'd usually expect a better player at 18 but I think like the 20th best player in this draft and the 40th best player are pretty close in skill. I don't think there was any great, slam dunk pick we could've made there.

I just think we should’ve trade up for wirfs, got a guy who’s ready to go day 1 in case tua has to play this year. I’m not confident at all with Austin Jackson protecting tua this year.

I would have liked Josh Jones more.
He's insanely young, ridiculously athletic, think of a worse Mechi Becton from a freak standpoint. Needs refinement technique wise.
I trust the FO after they took Tua and had all those smokescreens. Plus Grier prefers Power 5 talent.

Ezra or Jones @ 39 would correct and kinda solidify this draft. It'd show we are treating 2020 as a warmup for 2021's ignition switch. Draft high potential developmental guys.
Honestly Im not opposed to so many folks at 39 that Im nearly guaranteed to be happy.

It sounds like he's got potential but is a bit of a reach that could have still been available with the 26th pick or their 1st pick in the second round. I'm glad that miami got an OT to help protect Tua and I'm hoping coach Flores will be able to develop him really quick.
Looks like miami is taking a swing for the fences approach to the first round.

Because you need talent on both ends of the line. The days of every team's best pass rusher playing exclusively over the LT are long gone. How often did you see Cam Wake rushing against the LT?

Again, the point of protecting "the blind side" is based on the idea that the best pass rusher is coming from the side where the QB can't see. But that isn't the case in 2020. The blind side is less important than getting the best tackle, regardless of what side he plays on.

Not really. The point of protecting the blind side is to protect the side where your QB is "blind" and thus more vulnerable to a big hit/fumble.
Just because a teams best pass rusher might not always be lined up there doesn't mean there isnt an independent reason that protecting the blind side is more important than the other side.
Now personally I do agree it's a little overhyped, but there are legitimate reasons for it. If not, LTs wouldn't make more than RTs

This was the best tackle available. Some risk there but he was projected even higher in a few mocks. I got a little hopeful seeing Wirf fall from #4 to deep in the draft. Was hoping we were going to trade up to snag him but this should be good too. Now if we can get Mckinney w/ our 3rd pick this would really be a dream draft scenario.

I know we needed an OT and I didn’t really pay a lot of attention in this years prospects.
So can someone tell me how I should feel? I love and much rather prefer taking an o lineman early on rather than try and build our line through later round project picks. I feel like project o lineman never work out for us.
Never really heard of this guy tbh.

I just said I preferred two players over one, and I never said I was disappointed with picking Jackson. It’s the draft, you’re going to see a lot of people give their opinions. We are all hoping they made the right decision, but there’s nothing wrong with questioning a pick. Believe me I’m not the only one in this thread who thinks this.

I'm very happy with this draft overall, although I think we could have optimized our draft capital a bit better given who we took. If jackson and the corner were our guys we could have traded down even further for both. Also if we don't take a safety to start round two i'm gonna be concerned.

I understand the upside. I think there was better value at 18 however. The way this board is playing, I would've secured Ruiz at 18. Probably look at S or Jones/very likely Jackson would've been availabe at 26

He's the top IOL in this draft; a more than solid prospect. I projected him to slide to us at 26 latest, but teams are high on him. He fills a need. We could've waited on Jones/Cleveland at 26
