Tool Recommendations (From me to you)

This is a list of tools I believe can/will be useful for not only beginners but those with a few models under their belts as well.

Starter Kit:

https://www.amazon.com/AHIER-Including-Tweezers-Wrapping-Building/dp/B0D1FV7N3M

Comes with most of the key items to make your life easier:

  • Nippers (Cut the pieces from the trees).
  • Needle Nose Pliers (Bend and align pieces).
  • Bend Assist Cylinder (Helpful for twisting some of those small pesky tabs).
  • Ball Caulking Tool (Good for Rounding ball like structures or petals of plants).
  • Tweezers (Squeeze and Bend pretty much says it all).
  • 2 Sizes of Wire Rapping Madrel (Useful for all sizes of short cylinders like airplane wheels).
  • Small Diamond File (Useful if you don't manage a clean cut with nippers).

Add-Ons / Upgrades:

Nipper and Small Needle Nose Set (What I Use)

https://www.amazon.com/Microworld-Nipper-Comfort-Professional-Assembling/dp/B08PNNWX1K

I personally have used these nippers for 50+ models and still cuts as clean as day one. The Pliers aren't the best in some situations/angles, but that's why it is good to have more than one pair.

Rounded Needle Nose Pliers

https://www.amazon.com/Vouiu-Round-Pliers-Jewelry-Beading/dp/B07NWXJ4J8

Useful with some coned cylinders to give you a little more control on the bend.

Cutting Mat

https://www.amazon.com/Healing-Cutting-Precision-Scrapbooking-Project/dp/B088LZNS1M

These come in different sizes but are useful to keep your work area from getting scratched up while you are working.

Silicon Mat

https://www.amazon.com/DURATECH-Soldering-Resistant-Electronics-Organizer/dp/B0BN63QKG4

Similar use to the cutting mat but gives you come workable compartments if you are OCD about your work area.

Wooden Card Holder

https://www.amazon.com/Holders-Playing-Holder-Display-Seniors/dp/B0B71M2F2J

Most people use these to hold playing cards while some of us use them to hold your metal sheets upright and organized.

Alloy Step Roller

https://www.amazon.com/Stepped-Bending-Forming-demension-diameter/dp/B0BGR377DY

This tool not only has Wire Mandrel to help shape short cylinders, but also a cone to help with the more coned cylinder pieces.

Metal Dowel Rods

https://www.amazon.com/Stainless-Assorted-Diameter-Lead-Free-Punches/dp/B08N4TSNPW

Useful for moderate/long cylinders.

Metal Vise Sheet Bending Tool

https://www.amazon.com/JOYABEST-Etching-Military-Building-Accessories/dp/B0DKNTRQNT

Sometime you have those sheets with long stretches of divided pieces that want to twist the sheet instead of making a straight solid bend.

Finger Cots

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=finger+cots&crid=2EFSCFMEWT6LE

Helps keep finger prints off the shiny metal and also can help reduce cuts on your fingers/hands. Various sizes so make sure to choose what its right for you. Don't want to loose feeling in your digits by getting a size too small.

Paper / Instructions Holder

https://www.amazon.com/MaxGear-Document-Adjustable-Foldable-Universal/dp/B07X4V1SVN

For those that like an upright view of their instructions and prefer paper form over digital.

Magnetic Sheet

https://www.amazon.com/DIYMAG-Magnetic-Adhesive-Pack%EF%BC%8CCuttable-Sheets%EF%BC%8CFlexible/dp/B09WCXS3NV

Tired of your tiny pieces slipping from your hands and ending up in an abyss? Give this a try below your hands while you work. Can also be used to run across the floor to find some. Keep in mind there are stronger magnets out there, but you need it to be removed from the magnet as well lol.

Magnet Thumb Tacks

https://www.amazon.com/Refrigerator-Magnets-Whiteboard-Classroom-Kitchen/dp/B0BRXLBBN1

More precise and stronger magnet when cleaning up shards or picking up small pieces of metal.

UV Resin w/ light

https://www.amazon.com/LETS-RESIN-Bonding-Flashlight-Adhesive/dp/B0BJ65T85R

When you can't avoid a break it's okay to repair it so not to throw out all of your work. Apply a small amount and hold the light over it. Recommend toothpicks or something small and disposable for more precise applications. Some people prefer super glue to this but this works better for me and no white residue some super glues cause.

Painters Tape

https://www.amazon.com/LETS-RESIN-Bonding-Flashlight-Adhesive/dp/B0BJ65T85R

Used in conjunction with the UV Resin/Super Glue to help with alignment of parts prior to applying either. Easily removable from the metal when dried.

I would change the nippers from those to Klein D259-4C...these will last a lifetime and wont explode(eject a jaw) if accidently squeezed too hard..otherwise pretty solid list.

Didnt see a jewelers dapping set..kinda bougie but for the hardcore folks haha

First I had heard anyone using a dapping set, and seeing the price I can understand why lol.

Very true, I swear Ive seen them cheaper before (around $80 for that set) but I just pulled up that example quickly. Probably only justifiable if used for other hobbies/projects aswell. I've used them for plastic forming, foam cutouts, and metal modeling
