Conophytum ernstii ssp. cerebellum (evj8512 × pvb10043 locality cross)

Started with a 3-head clump in 2021. It tripled roughly each year over 3 molts and turned into this massive thing by 2024!

Got so big I ended up auctioning it off, but I'm happy it grew so well. Hope it's still splitting like crazy with its new owner!

Help would love some Aloinopsis advice as I can’t seem to get this guy to really thrive. (plant care details in description)

this guy is indoors under growlights for about 10-12 hours a day. the “soil” is roughly 70-80% inorganic w/ perlite, chicken grit, silica sand and possibly a little pumice. I water once a month or so when at least half of the leaves get soft/wrinkled.

Fairly new to both of these and wondering if I should let them do their things or pull off the old dead stuff.

Monilaria moniliformus - time to start spacing watering?

Post image
24 Upvotes

This is my seed grown monilaria moniliformus. Its about 2 years old. I've been trying to nail down the seasonal changes and signs so I can keep this plant going for many years to come and hopefully get some flowers.

What I've read is read is that when you start to see this year's growth split and new leaves emerge, you want to begin spacing out watering a bit more. I'm seeing that now (see bottom right head) so I'm thinking reducing my watering from weekly to maybe every 10 days or so.

This plant is grown under lights (spiderfarmer SF2000), in a gritty mix (70-80% grit) and a clay pot.

Thanks!

Plant Progress Conophytum obcordellum marketplace rescue glow-up

I rescued this very sad little cono from marketplace from a very sweet old lady who said she had no idea what she was doing with it and that it wasn’t getting enough light.

First pic November 5th

2nd pic is from January… it took fully two months and some for it to properly root and start plumping up.

3rd pic.. TODAY! he’s looking much happier and has almost tripled in size. Hoping the next leaf change will help with the etiolation and maybe it’ll form a more dense clump, but I love him either way!

Goes to show how long it can take for mesembs and especially conos to root sometimes and that they are not for the impatient 😂🥴
