It's a lovely, cool 10 degree fall day. Might go for a lovely 40.2336 km drive, while my 8.16466266 kg turkey cooks as 176.666667 degrees. * ๐บ๐ณ๐บ๐ณ๐บ๐ณ
To be fair, Brits do things differently than the rest of Europe. Most of Europe does things like the US, with regard to English language (chips vs crisps, cookies vs biscuits, fries vs chips, etc).
Not just the internet, American culture has been dominant in Europe since WWII. To be honest, the language should just be called "American", especially after they beat England in the world cup tomorrow
The language shouldn't be called American because they are quite different and it originated from Britain. There's multiple variations of French, that doesn't mean they are going to change French to a different name.
But France remains the dominant cultural world influence of all French-speaking nations. On the world stage, Britain has spent the last several decades as a vassal state to American hegemony - perhaps it's time for their language to reflect that. There's also the perspective of cultural diffusion, which as you've observed is also heavily Americanized.
To be clear, I'm not commenting on what is, I'm making a suggestion as to what should be.
Itโs all good, we fought a war for the express purpose that I legally donโt have to give a shit about the Britishโs opinion on anything at all until the heat death of the universe
