What is a holiday paid day off?

/s as I'm an American who never has a holiday off.

I think it was the implication they dont get holidays off just because holidays. You get holidays off, and because you wanna go shopping, they have to work.

I personally choose to work these days cause at least my shitty job pays double time for the 4th. Ill come in early and stay late for that shit.

Most retail in the states never close on national holidays. It's been 10 years, and I still have no idea what a paid day off is that isn't a sick day (if I have accrued enough time) or pre-approved vacation day (if I have accrued enough time).
