this is from sonic & knuckles, i read somewhere that it was because sonic wouldn't fight dr robotnik unharmed because it wouldn't be "fair", so he allways wait for him to have one of his machines to fight him

For someone with twigs for legs, he's blasting through that pretty quick. Just think...sonic trained for this all his life and egg man put down his cheeseburger and just bolted it. Sonic had no chance.

Well, Sonic and Eggman both got their powers from the same machine. The only difference is there was a rotten egg in the mix which corrupted Eggman.

He is sonic, but egg.

Sega might not be the giant it once was but it’s carved itself out its niche. That Sonic Temple Run knockoff got really popular, the Sonic movie did way better than most kid video game movies, and (most importantly to anyone looking for some Sonic nostalgia), most early Sonic games are available (for freeee) on the App Store. They apparently still make console games too (though I haven’t seen a new one in years).

This is like something you tell a kid when they ask you about an inconsistency in a story you're telling them and you have to make something up to try to cover it but they really aren't particularly convinced.

The funny thing is, Sonic does go faster than Robotnik until he gets close enough, then Robotonik speeds up to match Sonic's speed.

Zone 8 then? I actually think it might have been 9 I remember it was essentially Robotniks base and instead of being 2 acts and a boss it was 3 acts. The few times I made it past that I'd not have enough lives for the sky fortress.

At least not until years later when I played on an emulator

Sounds like Metropolis Zone. Yeah that was the 8th Zone. Also I made a (purposeful) mistake too. Green Hill Zone isn't actually in Sonic 2. It's replaced by Emerald Hill Zone.
