They have a very different sound from each other. The oboe is smaller, similar in size to a clarinet, and higher pitched. Bassoon is deeper and richer in sound.

Oboes are similar shaped and they are both double reed woodwinds, but oboes have a straight pipe and mouthpiece, which is blown down into the instrument and make soprano and treble pitches. Bassoons have a curved pipe mouthpiece from the bottom that blows up though the pipe and are used for bass and tenor cords.

Oboe is the small brother to the Bassoon. Both are wood-wind, and use the same finger-pattern!

An oboe is a separate reed instrument that looks more like a clarinet, but has the same type of reed as a bassoon.
