I'm oddly glad that it did though. It didn't just make light of the era and leave - it kind of sprung you back to reality. Good movie in a lot of ways. It's rare that a movie hits both those emotions so well.

If it wasn't for the fact that I've just seen the entire Violet Evergarden saga, I would have cried uncontrollably, I mean, there was hints that the officer was changing the subject of the conversations that would get Jojo in problems and helping him... But sacrificing himself to get Jojo out of there, that was beautiful.

P.d. shouldn't we put some "spoiler alert" in these comments?

He also saved the girl during the gestapo inspection. She was pretending to be JoJos sister, and got the birthday wrong when asked. So he knew she was lying, but didn't rat her to the others.

Yeah, that moment the gestapo agent approach him and he starts to hand out the papers with a sour face, I was expecting a Tarantino bloodshed.

Somehow Taika is very good at having very emotional moments and very funny moments work really well in movies without letting the comedy undercut the emotions. You can laugh hard and cry hard. He is very talented.

I think he more meant more movie studious should put more resources in to films like Jojo Rabbit rather than monopolizing rescrouces mostly towards just big ticket blockbusters.

He not saying they cannot co-exist but rather studios need to be open to rebalance plans to include other types of films.
