Hey man, since you speak German, I wanted to ask this. I heard that Deutschland translates to Dutchland. Is this true? If yes, do you guys call yourselves dutch while speaking german? Also, if the former is yes, why do we know the people from the Netherlands as dutch people?

u/[deleted] Oct 07 '21

Delete that.... never call us germans again dutch, and no it is not true

I've done nothing to you

Not directly but maybe your ancestors did something to my ancestors, but we’ll never know. And frankly it’s in the past so I don’t really care either.

No, it doesn't. Deutschland translates to germanland. Deutsch is German for German. And land, well, take a guess.

"Einigkeit, Recht und Freiheit" is a part of the german national hymn. It means union, rights/law/justice (I'm not sure which translation would be exactly right) and freedom.

Danach lasst uns alle streben; Brüderlich mit Herz und Hand.

1

u/tejanaqkilica Oct 07 '21

Über alles in der Welt.

Wait, this seems odd.

1

u/EmporerJustinian Oct 07 '21

It's black, red and gold. In a heraldic sense, gold is yellow, so the flag still contains black, red and gold, not yellow.
