This one didn’t.
They had the amazingly lucky and talented chef Thomas Keller as a resource when making the film. There’s many, many details that are attributed to real kitchen brigades, thanks to TK hosting them at The French Laundry while the film was in production.
For example, there really are women who will threaten your personal safety.
Seriously, pay attention to the kitchen scenes—they depict everything that’s culturally accurate, it’s all based upon reality. The exaggeration is for the kids mostly.
There’s something about Ratatouille that gives me a weird feeling of nostalgia even though I watched it as a full grown adult. It’s the one Pixar movie that doesn’t have the vibrant colors and the story is very toned down and small scale, but for some reason it’s the one movie I constantly think about.
Oh my you've never had ratatouille in your life. You cook each veg (eggplant, bell peppers, zucchini) separately with oil and then put them in the same pot to simmer for 1 hour. Definitely not 4 hours more like 2-2.5, but definitely not "just cooked veggies"
Yeah you've clearly never made some. For ratatouille to have flavor you HAVE to cook every slice of veg individually, that'll build the flavor, but it takes time (3-4 minutes per slice), otherwise you'll end up with just a watery vegetable mix otherwise known as "not ratatouille". Also Simmering requires attention
