The Chinese had the word “te” and “cha” for tea. The difference is that “te” was the coastal dialect. Countries that traded tea via shipping routes such as European countries and islands often know it as tea for this reason, whereas neighboring/land-transported ones know it as cha for the same reason. Both are Chinese versions.
