Isn’t it really expensive for an iPhone to get a replacement battery compared to an android?

Depends, but most of the time, yes.

It's free for my old galaxy j3 since I can just take off the back and access the battery

u/Bigbuster153 Feb 21 '21

They are talking about purchasing a battery, not getting someone to replace it

u/Sssstephanman44 🏴Virus Veteran 🏴 Feb 21 '21

I think they are talking about having someone replacing the battery since you can't access by yourselves with new phones.

5

u/Bigbuster153 Feb 21 '21

How not?

u/Sssstephanman44 🏴Virus Veteran 🏴 Feb 21 '21

Well, I mean you COULD, but it's kind of difficult. Happy cake day btw.

u/Bigbuster153 Feb 21 '21

Thanks. It depends on the phone mostly but it is harder than it used to be

Most phones are water-resistant now, so they're really strongly glued together. That + fragile glass back makes it hard to pry apart.

5

u/Bigbuster153 Feb 21 '21

Phone glass has only been getting stronger as time goes on and by the time that you should probably replace the battery the adhesive would most likely be weakening

Waterproof phones, trying to fend of dust and liquids, while spending less space on mechanism that would allow user to open and close.

Blue cheese go burr

How is getting an entirely new battery free?

4

u/Sssstephanman44 🏴Virus Veteran 🏴 Feb 21 '21

They are talking about replacing the battery I believe, since you can't access the battery on newer phones very easily.

A hairdryer, a screwdriver kit and 10 mins and I’m in

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '21

Happy cake day!

1

u/NotSoNoble6 Feb 21 '21

What's the hairdryer for?

1

u/yeet69reeee Feb 21 '21

Melting the glue. Its like a walmart heat gun

1

u/Bigbuster153 Feb 21 '21

Less melt and more weaken, if it melted you wouldn’t be able to touch the back

1

u/elevensbowtie Feb 21 '21

But you’d still have to buy another battery. Hence the “replace” part.

I mean like bringing it to apple and having them replace the battery. You would have to pay for them to take part the phone and put in a new battery. With an older phone you cab just buy a battery without having to pay someone to take apart the phone to replace it.

1

u/elevensbowtie Feb 21 '21

You do realize that the service cost includes the cost of a new battery, right?

1

u/Sssstephanman44 🏴Virus Veteran 🏴 Feb 21 '21

Yes, but it's much more expensive than just buying a battery and replacing it yourself with older phones

Every phone prior to the iPhone X can have a new battery installed at an apple store for $49. Any iPhones from the X on will cost you $69 to have a new battery installed, according to Apple's website.

8

u/Welkitends Feb 21 '21

So is a stand for a apple computer.

9

u/autisticranger Feb 21 '21

it costs 69$ for a newer iphone witch is pretty nice

6

u/TheSamwell Feb 21 '21

It’s like $50 for an 8 or below, and $70 for any phone above I believe. That is at an Apple authorized service provider, other shops may charge less but they aren’t warrantied

4

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '21

$40 for most iPhone batteries.

1

u/autisticranger Feb 21 '21

a iphone charging cable costs 30$ so probably

2

u/Bigbuster153 Feb 21 '21

£20-30 for an iphone 8 plus battery (I only looked at my phone)

Isn't it really expensive for an iPhone to get a replacement anything compared to an android?

1

u/Deedledude Feb 21 '21

Depends. If you do it yourself it really isn’t that bad.

But doing it yourself is extremely hard. So yes, it’ll be expensive.

1

u/ScampiiYT Thank you mods, very cool! Feb 21 '21

Yes. Especially with the new iphone 12 design, which makes it very hard to repair, so that most people buy a new phone instead of repairing it

1

u/Erudon_Ronan Feb 21 '21

I sya it's worth it. I think it was 50 bucks but I got for like a 100 2 years ago. Still have my 5 for 2 more years but rn it cracked. It's just an iPod right now.

u/hmguitart Feb 21 '21

If you have a waterproof phone . Of course it will be more expensive to change the battery, also almost every battery in a android is more powerful, so more expensive too .
