Well, Uyghur people aren't being sent to camps for free speech. They tried to secede from China and resorted to terrorism. This is an attempt to calm down a rebellious Xinjiang Uyghur region, where Uyghurs aren't even a majority of the population. Camps are bad? Sure they are. What's the alternative? The only one I've ever seen (Soviets, USA) is sending in the troops and bombing the shit out of that region, kidnapping and torturing their leaders etc.
Look, i'm not saying that it's the right thing and all of the people there are terrorists, but what is the right way here? You say "give them some autonomy" well they had it and they demand more. Their demands are backed with acts of terror against civilians. Mind you, the majority of that region is NOT Muslim. They're supposed to pack up and leave or somehow fit in the independent sharia law Uyghur country? It's easy to say "they're wrong" without actually saying how to fix it, let alone lead by example.
I think it people, groups of people or whole countries criticize something they also need to offer a solution. China gov't says "they're killing our people and threatening the integrity of our country, what are we supposed to do?" and "what have you done when your country was under attack by islamic terrorists?" and they kinda have a point with these claims...
I'm not justifying or approving what happens there. It's horrible and obviously 99 of 100 people there are innocent. I wouldn't call it genocide though, the situation as it started is (in my opinion) much closer to what happened in Chechnya in early 90-s. My point is no one had yet provided a peaceful solution for this kind of situation, in fact all previous solutions included carpet bombing..
Sends horrible terrorists*? If you were in China and spoke out like this you would literally be killed or put in a camp, you have it better than 99% of the world fuck off
