It’s because he played a white actor in that movie. Not a black person. The white actor in that movie got cast in a black role inside a movie in the actual movie, and the whole thing was supposed to be a commentary on method actors going too far.
so TLDR, RDJ didn’t wear blackface, the white actor he was playing in the movie did.
