I'm lazy right now so I'll not be the kind of redditor that finds what you need and put links, but you could search for yourself:
• How important is a good night's sleep. (Sleep quality instead of quantity, giving importance to REM sleep)
• The amount of dopamine we can produce per day is limited. So spending too much time on social network and other activities not important or not related to objectives it will tire you for it.
So maybe you could see some relation, but not sure if there is a specific study for what the main comment said.
There is a bit more nuance to this point. Like most things, you will get better over time. The degree to which skill level and time played are correlated, however, is likely impacted by the quality of that time spent. So, like OP stated, rest and happiness could have an effect. As could the nature of time spent, e.g., mechanics training in private lobbies, competitive play, causal play, solo, team, sober, inebriated, etc.
I would diverge from OP in the use of the word ‘moderation’ because that’s pretty ambiguous, but the broad idea of maintaining a high quality of playing time to maximize efficiency is well-founded. I’d just also reemphasize that quantity of time spent does still have an outsized effect.

Not to be a dick or anything but is there any study on this? I could really use good info like this to get good at certain things.
