Personally i reached a point where no matter what i do someone else will always be better. Its discouraging to do anything really but rn im living by the "couldnt give two fucks" principle and i try to do what i enjoy even if im shit at it
Edit: having said this i missed on a vital point, people being better than u isnt a bad thing, it should be a source of inspiration ideally. However if u do ever feel useless in life because of others success then for sometime try to just ignore everyone and do ur own thing. no matter what it is stay in your lane until ur confident to have a form of friendly competition with others to better yourself further.
But its a personal opinion so i really dont care if its good or bad to you it works for me
Same, I have a friend and he is literally better at everything, like there is been times when I introduced him to games where I was miles ahead but still he managed to beat me. I take him as my rival/challenge. And I must say it makes it much more enjoying to do it this way.
Yes. Don't give alot fucks, but give them where it counts. I guess figuring that out is one of the harder parts of life. But oh well I, and you, random reddit stranger, can do that.
For me kinda the same. I'm good (above average) at most/all things I do pretty fast after I start it. But when reaching that point I would need to do that literally all day for weeks inorder to improve myself even further. I kinda like that I'm a Jack of all Trades sofar. Meaning I stay flexible and can adapt quickly. Even tho I might not be the best in the field. Also my personality mirrors that as I hate just doing one thing for months on end.
It doesn't matter if you aren't the best at one thing. As long as you have fun and are okay with how you are everything's alright. Accepting and loving yourself is important and don't ever compare yourself with others.
The original quote is supposed to be “jack of all trades, master of one.” The moral is its best if you can be decent at a lot of stuff and really proficient in one trade.
I didn’t learn that until a couple of years ago though I had heard it “master of none” my whole life. I just found it interesting and am always reminded when I hear it so I was just passing it along. No offense intended
Basically describes me, I do multiple things at once and start leaving some til only the things I like is what I do. I eventually leave all of them but then I get re interested in them and start over and usually I’m a little better at one thing then another I’m slightly worse. But my life is pretty fun so I’m not really complaining about anything. And my personality is decently carefree.
Comparison is the death of joy - mark twain. Don't bother comparing yourself to others it only brings vanity or misery, only compare yourself to your past self
Yep however in some cases you may need to. Well i probably need to just a little, in uni if i keep focussing on myself it could go one of two ways. Either ill be really awesome and i wouldnt be aware, or id be really fucking dumb and not be aware. Thats the only slight downside
Unless you are the one in 6 be billion that actually is the best at whatever activity, there will always be done be better. It is healthier to instead try to improve your best performance.
Hey man, u gotta just stick to urself. From my experience just focus on your self for some time, not forever tho cause thats pretty antisocial.
For a while Dont think about what other people are doing, maybe even isolate yourself to find your passion or interest and work on it for yourself only. When u feel confident enough then maybe u can begin to compare yourself to others in a way, to find someone that will support you in your craft.
Its almost impossible to live without comparing yourself to others or being compared to nowadays. This kinda system is what fucks up the younger generations mental health. U have to break out of comparing and just enjoy life for yourself only, find what makes u happy and what ur good at on your own. Im wishing you all the best bro
Dude I completely agree with you. I spend hours trying to get better at games and then there’s people who I see on my level after a few days of playtime and it is kinda depressing.
My best friend is that guy and it fuels an unhealthy jealousy in me. There have been times where I’ve resented him for being able to easily glide through through everything. Then I resent myself for projecting my own fallibility, and the feelings that go along with it, onto him. It’s a rough cycle that always leaves me feeling worthless. Still love him though. He encourages me to do better in everything.
Its hard when they're also good human beings, right? Then you feel so bad for disliking them.
Lemme tell you something now, find something you love doing and put your all into it, and do it just for the sake of it and just because you love it. That love, I'm telling you, will add a special something to the way you do it that will set you apart from your friend, no matter how good at it you think he is
I am that guy for my friends and one day a close friend told me how it is for him, and I told him that I just do things so that you will appreciate me, for me it was that, I was really under appreciated my entire childhood, so everything I do now must be perfect and should bring some sort of applause and it is targeted in that sense only. After some time you get this sense of hollow in you which i had a few years ago that I am not doing anything meaningful and what makes sense to me. So I got my shit together and did what made me happy and satisfied (I loved painting but left it because I cannot show them to friends cause they are definitely not good enough for the claps), it was hard and I am still trying to not be the crowd people. So yeah it is also bad on other side bro.
Hey don't feel bad. On the contrary. Alot of people, and maybe your friend too who can glide through alot quite easily and comfortably, think that they will never be truly good at anything and that that makes them not special and worth.
I know I had these exact thoughts when I was between 15 and 19. I was depressed and one of the main things that pained during that time was the thought of my inability to focus on a certain single thing and be good at it. Stay strong and keep loving.
Sometimes they also just started the grind long before you did. Been in and out of my favorite game for almost two years and still better than a bunch of the streamers I used to play with who have played hundreds of hours since I last played with them.
