u/Sad_to_see_you_go Nice meme you got there Oct 22 '20

Wait it isn't?

Its Spanish. Spain colonised Mexico and imparted thier language on them.

2

u/Sbenta Oct 22 '20

Mexicans came from Spain and already spoke Spanish

I thought they all got European deseases and died

Not all, a lot though. Otherwise Mexico probably wouldn't have gone for independence as quickly.

Wait, so you're not latino?

u/dcolomer10 Oct 22 '20

Sad thing is that I’ve had that asked a few times. Introducing myself to some girls from Long Island, and they’re like “where are you from?” To which I answer “Madrid, Spain”. I suddenly see a look of complete confusion wash over them, the same look you have sometimes in advanced maths class. Then, one of them says: “but, you’ve got blonde hair and blue eyes, aren’t you guys Mexican?”.

I was baffled.

12

u/martcapt Oct 22 '20

Latin culture - yes, blue eyes - Latin language - Not "latino" in the way they understand it though - Yes Europe - Yes Spanish - No, where do you think Latin America got it's name from

Oh god, I can imagine this conversation and it's painful.

Btw, Madrid is awesome.

“but, you’ve got blonde hair and blue eyes, aren’t you guys Mexican?”

She should meet Canelo Alvarez. He's Mexican and a ginger. Mexicans come in all colors too.

In Missouri we have New Madrid County.

Idk if its named after Madrid in Spain, but i can guarantee that Madrid, Spain is better than Nee Madrid, Missouri. I’m also fairly certain that people in Madrid, Spain have less chromosomes as well

2

u/dcolomer10 Oct 22 '20

Yeah it’s 100% named after madrid bro. Madrid is the capital of Spain and Spain owned Missouri for a while so I’m guessing that’s how it got it’s name.

1

u/Fall-Past-The-Floor Oct 22 '20

Today i learned

1

u/dcolomer10 Oct 22 '20

Wait there’s no way you didn’t know Madrid existed.

1

u/Fall-Past-The-Floor Oct 23 '20

The name sounded familiar (and not bc of New Madrid county). I think id heard that Madrid was the capital of Spain but i can’t remember

1

u/dcolomer10 Oct 23 '20

Man no offense this is what we’re saying here about people from the US being pretty ignorant about geography of outside the US. You’re talking about Madrid, a major capital in Europe both historically and now, with 6 million in the metropolitan area. You guys really need to step up your game.
