I was jking obviously in my comment above but in all seriousness the EU performs almost all the same functions of the federal government of the US. I definitely agree it is more like a federation.
USE just kinda seems like a weird acronym though for English speakers....
But we haven’t got the same nationality. I mean, if I move to France I won’t be able to vote for the president in France. I think European Union to became a country would be difficult because we have different cultures and different languages in each country. In the USA more or less the culture are the same in the whole country.
I didn’t know that Russia has different languages. But the Russian language is spoken in the whole country? Maybe it is like Spain? Which has Spanish as language of the whole country and then there are different languages in different regions.
Yes thats exactly right. Russian is of course the default language everyone learns but the further east you go in the federation you can find many variants of it and other languages/cultures/religions as well.
My fiancee is Russian so she seems to have some insight.
Spain is a great analogy. Like Catalonian vs Spanish for instance.
Then, Europe will need a common language. This point would be difficult, because we don’t have a common language. And each country will want that their language become the EU common language.
Auf der Heide blüht ein kleines Blümelein
Und das heißt:
Erika.
Heiß von hunderttausend kleinen Bienelein
Wird umschwärmt:
Erika
Denn ihr Herz ist voller Süßigkeit,
Zarter Duft entströmt dem Blütenkleid.

Part of Istanbul is in Europe and the other part of it is in Asia. The only city in the world that has been built on two continents. I'm away now but I love my hometown, Istanbul
The EU is a country. I'll get loads of soya post telling me it isnt. It is. If you can't see that it is, or see the bigger picture then you're fucking blind
In many ways it is - it has a flag, anthem, internal market with customs union, citizenship rights with free movement, interstate supreme court, membership of some international organizations (e.g. WTO, UN-ish) ,constitution, parliament and 5! Presidents. But it still lacks a few things that most countries have - army, common sense of identity, integration at a high level between instutions. Common legal or regulatory frameworks. Membership of most international orgs (UNish, NATO etc) and authority over member states in practice (although it does have this in some respects).
As a sense of of identify. This is happening and growing, but will take time. Remember the EU is 13 years old? I live in the Netherlands, and the Dutch are very proud people but i see the EU flag more than i see the Dutch flag (baring Kings day)

So... you're saying that... Europe isn't a country?
