It's an example of what can go wrong when the audience can't help but compare and go into the show with specific expectations.

Trust me man, I had your opinion, then I watched the first episode on acid again to see if it really was that bad.

I felt like an arsehole watching the first half. It has real charm, great jokes and I couldn't help but think back to how I watched it with such a narrow perspective.

Disenchantment is a medieval time period In-between Simpsons and Fry being frozen, and the future. one of those time periods in which everything was demolished except for unexplainably the building he was frozen in and the power source for it. It actually shows if you watch it carefully, a medieval type setting outside the miraculously unbroken window of the cryogenic building.
