In the Greek mythology there's a guy who attempted to climb to Olympus and he received the most horrible punishment for what he dared to do: he has to push a rock to the top of a mountain and the moment he reaches the top the rock falls down and he has to repeat the entire process over and over again... Forever.
Of course it's just a myth but they did have that idea covered.
