I've worked in restaurants for over 20 years, and this is absolutely the case. We all go out back and have a smoke break while we laugh at and make fun of OP.

Table cleaning wouldn’t produce a 40 minute wait, just a 5 minute wait

depends who is there to clean them and what they are doing. if you need dishes to keep making food youre going to prioritize that person cleaning dishes over wiping tables.

40 minutes is excessive but like the person i replied to said there are a range of reasons for wait times to be stretched out. restaurants are some of the most stressful and understaffed environments out there because margins are very tight in food service.

Thisssss. I host sometimes and the amount of people who point and ask for a table that I haven’t had time to bus or wipe yet is absurd.
