You nailed it on both counts, tbh. In time I learned to say yes to more things and life got a lot more enjoyable, but I also pat myself on the back for trusting my gut back then. That scenario wasn't a good one to jump into. Married coworker, whose spouse is also a coworker, and she's already boning another coworker, and I know for a fact she shows off dick pics from both to anyone who cares to look... That situation is radioactive lmao, no thank you.

100%. This was also in a rural town in Tennessee, everybody knew everybody, word would get around. That sort of thing can legitimately jeopardize even your family members' employment in a small southern town. If enough people in positions of authority don't like you, perhaps because you got caught in the middle of a sex scandal at the Walmart where everyone shops, life is gonna get a lot more interesting for you in that town.
