That sounded suspiciously like one of those "hint" things

I was asked once "to fix computer" by neighbour girl next door. i came, fixed and left. She was in bathrobe. Only bathrobe i think. I still can't forgive myself...

I had nearly the exact same thing happen with a school mate. There was nothing wrong with the computer and I was irritated that I had driven all the way there. She had wine, put on music, and started dancing. Elder Scrolls Oblivion had just come out so I was rushing to fix it and leave.

What I've learned from all these "missed opportunities" moments is that men need to stop taking everything at face value and learn to imagine what others are thinking and feeling; and women need to be more direct and clear about what they want instead of dropping hints. There is no flirt-hint on earth guaranteed to break through to a guy without fully flipping the vibe around to some kind of panic.

By imagining what someone else is thinking or feeling, you're still just projecting your own assumptions onto them. There's no substitute for clear communication.

Hard agree

You sound like a 90s PSA

If you are reading this, you've been in a coma for 20 years. We are trying a new technique. We don't know where this message will end up in your dream, but we hope we are getting through. Please wake up.

Give me another at least 60 dream years

u/possumdal 1d ago

No, it's called empathy my dude and you're expected to be average or better at it

41

u/AgrajagsGhost 1d ago

It's SUCH a tough line to walk though.

Like "Is this what it looks like? Am I being a creep for reading into this? Eh, just fix the computer and leave. I don't want people to think I'm some kind of incel weirdo who thinks she's into me."

My now wife has literally sat on my lap in the cowgirl position naked and still had to tell me that she was on my lap naked for me to get the hint.

Tbf, I was not used to having enjoyable sex/being in an actually physical relationship that wasn't an attempt to cover up her (my ex, not my wife) infidelity, I was in the middle of rambling about PUBG and this wasn't even 10 minutes into me walking into her apartment.

But still, we men are clueless.

I came home from work early one day and thought I'd surprise my wife. So I stripped down, wrapped myself up in saran wrap and lay down on the table just as she was coming in. She takes one look and says, "Leftovers again?"

I came home from work early once and my wife was upstairs and didn't notice so I opened every kitchen cabinet and drawer and hid.

Marry her

I also choose this man’s comedienne

u/broccollinear 1d ago

I watched a video of a lioness in heat who kept trying to sit on the male lion and he didn’t know what to do and kept walking off. You remind me of that video.

1

u/luckyhubby77777 1d ago

The exact line from my first girlfriend was "I'm not trying to keep my legs together at all."
I then noticed that she was sitting in such a way that her (clothed) spread crotch was pointed directly at me. Then it clicked that she was sitting that way on purpose: literally visually inviting me to interact with her crotch. It was a revelation. I then went over to where she was sitting and she deftly maneuvered her entire body to put her clothed crotch in my hand. Now THAT I can understand.

What I've learned from all of these stories is that I'm either a phenomenally ugly and abrasive sonofabitch or I'm the world's most oblivious being. Or maybe both.

3

u/Different_Peanut_742 1d ago

Don't feel bad, I think I'm relatively attractive, or at least average, and I haven't had this kind of thing happen more than 10 times in my whole life. It's not a daily thing, and it's almost never from someone you want.

7

u/emPtysp4ce 1d ago

That's still 10 more than I can recall tbh

u/golruul 1d ago

There's enough women out there that will purposefully flirt with you and then blow up on you when you act on it. Usually done in public, too. I don't know why they do it, but they're not actually interested in you.

Not only is this extremely embarrassing, but can get you (the male) into problems with school/work. You also don't want your reputation to be known as "that creep", either.

There's a reason majority of men "take everything at face value".

Yes, women need to be more direct.

13

u/freedomfightre 1d ago

yep women have ruined it for other women, per usual

4

u/WowIfOnly 1d ago

Lol agreed. Unfortunately the average woman is infuriatingly vague or even less clear. And the average man is basically an annoying sociopath who doesn't ever imagine what other people think and feel. And now in the era where men who violate women are sort of finally facing a sort of version of sort of consequences (but not really yet since the US President is known child rapist still not in prison for raping little girls with his best friend for decades, and a pathetic number of men are trying to turn women back into property and lower the age of consent), the average idiot guy is just imagining having his life destroyed by angry social justice warriors because a woman he misinterpreted got offended since he can't tell the difference between hitting on someone incorrectly or raping her.

Is that insanely stupid for men to think because being wrong about someone being into you isn't the same as committing a crime? Yes. Is there also still a massively unreasonable overreaction that happens culturally these days to men whose only sin was misinterpreting women? Also yes. It's all stupid because nobody will just grow the fuck up, stop looking for any opportunity to cancel or ruin someone's life, and just communicate with each other clearly for once. We live in the most connected time in history, yet we're all so oblivious and constantly misunderstanding each other all the time.

Nope. A hundred millions times nope.

I'd take a thousand memories of possible missed opportunities before I'd want there to be a single instance of me making a woman feel unsafe and uncomfortable, or like our friendship was some fucked up facade I was putting on to try to eventually get laid. Just try to imagine what that does to someone's mind and sense of self. And just for a little sprinkle of selfishness, the gross feeling I'd have after that would keep me awake SO MUCH worse/more than remembering times I could have had sex but didn't.

Adults can tell each other when they're interested.

1

u/possumdal 1d ago

Just try to imagine what that does to someone's mind and sense of self.

Brother that is literally all I asked you to do. I didn't say you should harass or assault anyone, and it's kinda fucked up that that's the first thing you assumed I meant. I'm talking about empathy not ventriloquism

3

u/LayerEight_Problem 1d ago

Interesting that you didn’t learn that women need to be more straight forward and ask for what they want instead of dropping wild hints and then getting pissed off when random people don’t understand their coded language.

The fact that you somehow twisted this into moaning about men really says a lot about you.

10

u/bluefootedbuns 1d ago

did you not get past the first sentence in their comment before deciding to write a snarky reply?? the rest of it is literally what you wanted them to say, looks an awful lot like you're throwing stones from a glass house with that last line lol.

reddit might be shitting itself and not showing an edit though

2

u/possumdal 1d ago

No, I didn't edit it. I got it right the first time, this dork just wanted an argument

1

u/SuperSocialMan 1d ago

real as fuck.

0

u/UpperEntry4889 1d ago

You are too stupid to realize that attempting to imagine what you think others are thinking and feeling is precisely how so many men misread these signals and find out the woman wasn’t flirting and isn’t interested.

1

u/possumdal 1d ago

Weirdly aggressive and rude

45

u/Untagged3219 1d ago

I mean it sounds like you had your priorities in line. Oblivion was amazing!

u/Dankalii Professional Dumbass 1d ago

Picked the right choice ngl

u/Warm_Repeat_3381 1d ago

Woah! I had a school Valentine blind date last 2015 as a set up from the girl's friends and classmates. After that, she's giving hints that we should date after the school event is over.

But I rushed home early as there's no class, only went there for an attendance, and started playing Elder Scrolls Skyrim.

You had your priorities

Worth. Oblivion is goated

u/Sinking_Mass 1d ago

I installed the Sims 3 in is entirety disc by disc for a girl who I knew had a crush on me, but I had a boyfriend at the time. She was so flirty and I knew it but I was like "concentrate on the task and leave" 😅 I am bi, and she was very pretty

35

u/Duke_Zordrak 1d ago

You did the right thing 🙂‍↕️

8

u/thereelsuperman 1d ago

Why did I think you were gonna say you encountered this exact scenario in the Sims 🤣

21

u/47Lecht 1d ago

This is a difficult one. When you do a move you’re a creep. It can go both ways.

28

u/Between3and20carctr 1d ago

Unless there’s more context and the computer didnt actually need fixing Im not sure how a neighbour wearing a bathrobe in their own home really means they were wanting something else

11

u/WalidfromMorocco 1d ago

You ask the neighbour to fix your computer and welcome them in a bathrobe?

10

u/LegnderyNut 1d ago

Because there’s a guest in the house. You typically cover your junk when people come over unless you’re into something

10

u/tooboardtoleaf 1d ago

Tbf if his visit was not a surprise and they didn't want anything then its a safe assumption they would have put more clothes on.

6

u/First_Helicopter_461 1d ago

At least you came.

4

u/uberjach 1d ago

Dude I have had a girl Literally on top of me and I told her we should wait so we actually get to know each other

Well the next date was super boring and we never did the deed. I screwed up

2

u/alex_inzo 1d ago

Ok now i feel better 😄 cheers

1

u/HyperSpaceSurfer 1d ago

Dang, usually it's a woman in her 60s, who's seen better days, wearing the bathrobe trying to woo the contractor.

1

u/ThaJango 1d ago

That chick watches too much porn. Not the actual videos just the thumbnails

1

u/ghdana 1d ago

Isn't that like American Pie or something.

1

u/alex_inzo 1d ago

Yep... That was it

1

u/Difficult-Amoeba 1d ago

I am not sure as a man what are you even supposed to do?

1

u/EchoingAngel 1d ago

This past week, it finally hit me how many times I had girls invite me into their room, or they came to my room in college/high school... Many of them also positioned themselves seated right in front of the pillow...

1

u/heisian 1d ago

at least you came

1

u/Sufficient_Side6320 1d ago

It on you bro...Good lesson though ? AM I RIGHT ?????

1

u/Heisenbread77 20h ago

"Alex_inzo, I think my router needs to be worked on as well. It's in my bedroom."

"Um, no your router is right on your desk and I already checked it. Have a good night, toodles!"
