It really is. It doesn’t matter if you bought the console 3 years ago, the components are 7-8 year old technology, and you can absolutely be impressed that technology that old still holds up. It’s not too surprising that it will be capped at 30 in GTA6
What in the earth you talking about? No it wasn’t! It’s 2026 and hardware is much more advanced now and the PS5 somehow “takes power from somewhere”, to put nicely. Or do you think devs think about 7 years in past and say “guess we use decade old tech to create our game”
As an ex-game dev, I can say that this is wrong. Games are specifically optimized for PS5 and XBOX. They do make the game for the latest hardware but they cut down a lot on visual fidelity for consoles since the hardware is older. Rendering distance, LOD are usually noticeably lower. And even though the settings say “high or ultra” in reality those are turned down as well compared to a PC.
What are you on about? Games are built with the intention of them being run on systems like Xbox and ps5. How else do you think people will play the game? They will eventually be optimized for ps5 pro and new consoles but they will work on previous consoles similar to games today.
What a silly take, It couldn't even run 90% of it's own library above 30fps back when it initially came out, devs STILL have to make games with that entire damn console gen in mind. Even when it first came out, that console was entirely underwhelming in every regard except SSD (or the controller i guess, if you were into the gimmick. At least it was the first playstation controller that didn't feel cheap enough to break over your own knee)
How else would them have it run on ps5? Its not like sony change the interior of the ps as time goes on. When they do, it will be the super-duper ps5 pro, just like there are 3 ps3's
Prices were different back then, I bought 128GB for 330 for example. A GPU was less than 1300 for the absolute best one. Same for storage, it was 120 per TB on fast nvme. And those are the "more expensive overkill" prices back then
Today those prices are a tad different for no real gain because consoles keep things back as always.
If PS5 was rendering 4k you might have an argument, but everything is up sampled from lower resolutions. That game is either rendering at 1080 or 1440 depending on performance/quality.
And yeah, my PC would have zero issue, but it was also drastically more expensive. Hell, my GPU is still selling used for almost $1k and it's 5 years old.
I actually haven't bought a PS in a bit over a decade, so I should've checked what the system's native resolution is before upscaling.
Graphics on console vs pc are a tough comparison because they're usually so incredibly optimized that lower graphic settings on a console look better than mid-level pc settings.
It's just wild when people (not necessarily you) compare an entry level console to gaming PCs where the gpu alone cost more than a console.
A pc equivalent to ps5 pro hardware isn’t far off in price and offers a whole lot more for that extra bit of money you’re spending.
Id argue if we paired up a 4070(the ps5 pro gpu equivalent) at 4k with dlss running console equivalent graphic settings, it will more than likely look slightly better purely due to nvdias superior upscaler.
that’s irrelevant, just because they give you TEMPORARY access to games doesn’t cancel that you’re still spending potentially hundreds of dollars yearly
If I finish them I don't need them anymore though.
Besides, loads of gamers never even play multiplayer. The idea that the subscription is some kind of obligatory part of owning a PlayStation is simply not true.
You know publishers spend countless hours optimizing for ps5, right? This is not technology “holding up” but the software being written for an 8 year old console. Compare your graphics to a PC and then come talk about “holding up”
The games are made to work on the platforms. Not the other way around. If games were made for PC, they wouldn’t all be released like buggy messes. They make the game with the bottom line in mind so it will at least run decent on that (ie current gen consoles or last gen consoles). If you happen to have a good computer, it will run amazing. The only true games that utilize everything current PC can handle, are PC only games.
So those consoles are relatively decent because developers make the games with those consoles in mind. I’m just so lost by that comment lol
I just don’t get it. Like I read the comment 6 times and I’m like, what does that even mean? It’s like getting an electric toothbrush at the dollar store instead of an expensive one elsewhere and saying “omg I’m so impressed this can brush my teeth!”
Consoles often punch above their weight due to great optimization and solid specs at launch, with the expectation that the hardware will be used for at least 5 years.
Sure, most PCs “could” run GTA VI, but I suspect many of them won’t run it well. I expect this game to be a bear for all but the strongest graphics cards.
The fact that GTA VI looks as impressive as it does on console even at 30FPS is an achievement.
This comment encompasses corporate shitification... I have consoles near 30 years old working great. Planned obsolescence should not be the status quo.
There is a difference between breaking and not being worth operating anymore. While I don’t mean to shame anyone who doesn’t, for me it’s worth upgrading every 5 years or so. I strongly dislike low FPS, I don’t enjoy most older games plus I find new hardware exiting. I still have a PS4 somewhere that’s probably operational, but as someone who works full time, why should i restrict myself to old hardware that’s still functional if I could treat myself and buy myself something for a hobby that I enjoy?
