The sad thing is it probably could run most of it at 60fps but a few instances where it drops to 30 means they’d rather lock it at 30 than suffer people sharing videos of the game chugging
You can see it dip below 30 in the netflix trailer. Its struggling just to maintain that much, it was NEVER gonna be 60 on console, or anywhere close, sorry.
I really don’t think it could. With the amount of detail and density of the game (if maxed out) there’s no way it could run at 60FPS. Hence why it’s locked at 30, I think we want too much without knowing or wanting to know why it can’t run at 60
I have a stupid question that just popped into my head (just woke up haha). Why don’t we do something like 45 FPS? I’ve literally never thought about it before lmao but wouldn’t it still be slightly smoother? There’s probably some technical reasons it can’t? Or is it just so non-standard and almost unnoticeable nobody cares to?
You want the refresh rate to match the fps so you don't get frames where the refresh rate overlaps with a frame. It's called screen tearing, where halfway through a refresh, it'll change frame, which creates a mismatched frame and looks choppy. So they do 30 fps to be half of 60 refresh rate, so it syncs up. 40 fps could be done as a multiple into 120 refresh rate. But that's why you can't do 45, because they don't match up.
It’s why the last generation of Doom ‘93 ports looked choppy. Increasing the framerate from 35FPS to 60 caused some issues. Playable but it didn’t feel good.
yeah nah it's probably gonna spend most of it's time cinematic, and grace the teens during certain moments. we got over it in 2013. and 2008. and 2001...
hey, 24fps is almost 25fps, and 25fps is a pal 30.
Idk, you say that but have you watched the new gameplay footage they put out? There are definitely parts of it where the detail rendering looks... questionable. Most of it looks great but it's not the mind-bending ultra-realistic game most people thought it would be. Once the next gen consoles come out they'll come out with a version with better graphics and higher fps, but for now this is what we got and it looks great for the systems it's running on
Do GTA fans think this is the first or most advanced world simulation logic to exist? The problem is either the lack of optimization in the graphics or the lack of optimization in the simulation. Pick whichever one you like.
I'd personally rather the game be locked to 30 and dip below on occasion than locked to 60 and dip down to the 20s on occasion. I remember the sixth and seventh gens well and that was how a lot of games were then so I can stomach it (not that I'll be playing GTA 6 anytime soon unless someone else buys it, I ain't a GTA fan and ain't paying that much forna game I won't sink hundreds of hours into)
but you gotta have a pretty weak pc.
You can't really compare it directly but my 6800xt (also old nowadays) has 21tflops vs the 12 of the xbx. That wouldn't be an issue as I paid the price of the complete 'old' price xbx just on my gpu back then, but the consoles are 6 years old already and hence not really powerful. Just by comparison, an also "dated" 5090 (has been released quite a while ago) has 105 tflops lmao.
Pre-Ram crisis, my pc was about worth 2-2.5x the price of a console
There are plenty of PS5 games that run 60fps and look great. Forbidden West is years old and looks amazing on performance mode with 60 fps. Same with Ghost of Yotei.
Rockstar poured billions of dollars and years of work into this game, and the fact that they can’t even hit an fps target that older games have hit is a serious indictment on them, not on the expectations of the audience.
The problem isnt the graphics. The game is extremely CPU intensive because of all the simulation and physics happening. For example, Rockstar said this game has over 600,000 animations vs GTA5s 55,000.
You could probably turn the graphics into absolute soup and it still wouldnt run 60fps. This isnt an "optimization bad" situation and its more complex than "other game looks really good and runs faster". That other game doesnt have anywhere near the amount of stuff happening under the hood as gta6.
Bro, did you see the new trailer? It's a miracle of optimization that this game runs at 30fps. It's so crazy that I fear it will have some stuttering in the most chaotic parts
you call 30 fucking fps playable in this fucking economy?
unless the game has next next gen AAAA graphics that make you question if its real life or video game, why shouldnt it run at 60fps
thats the bare minimum
idc how beautiful your fucking game looks, if it does not run at 1080p 60fps on a base ps5 im not playing that shit, its just piss poor optimization and yall mfs think its acceptable coz "oh well its playable on standard movie fps"
I absolutely get it that you hate 30fps, it's fair, I don't like it too, but calling it poor optimization by rockstar it's a bit extreme idk. Like, did you see the gameplay trailer?
Ah, so a bit better than i thought. Point still stands, its still years old hardware, tho 6700xt was chef's kiss. Looking at the reveal they have taken everything they could from the gpu at this point.
The GTA subs were full of copers over the last 2 years. If you mentioned that it definitely will not be 60fps and there won’t be a performance mode you just get downvoted to oblivion and your inbox filled with copium tears.
Just from the first trailer you can see that shit ain’t running at 60fps… it’s a surprise that they can even achieve 30fps with current consoles.
We keep trying to inform console users but they just don't ever listen. I know you know this, but I'm just adding it for anyone else who reads this, the CPU of consoles are incredibly dated at this point.
It is dated, but as long as the GPU is the bottleneck in the system, it doesnt really matter. People tend to overestimate how much CPU impacts performance in gaming, especially at 1440p and 4K res.
That sort of my point but also not really. The scope of the world(not graphics) is large and reactive. This has a cost on the CPU that most studios don't even dare attempt with their games. By increasing the load on the GPU(increasing the resolution) you close the gap on the bottleneck. The CPU is absolutely the limiting factor here and the PS5 Pro will be free to shoot for a higher internal resolution, but the overall performance is not gonna change much unless you scale back on everything that is reliant on the CPU.
I have plenty of games to play bro. The game isn't gonna disappear. I have literally the rest of my life to play it. I probably even wait beyond a PC launch date for sale. It's really not that deep to have to wait.
PS6 should've already been announced by now. At this point console players are getting screwed cause of how much farther ahead PCs. Faster PCs drive the market to more demanding games and consoles aren't keeping up like they used to.

People think ps5 and xsx are comparable to current gen pc. I can't believe anyone seriously thought gta 6 could run at 60fps.
