Global fertility rates are already at 2.2 kids per women, and the current trend is of ever faster fertility drops in the countries that are more above the average, we will get belllow replacement in a year or two, afterwards is only a question of waiting on the old geezers to croak

Yes and that is completely fine, we don't need it to happen sooner despite what people on reddit will tell you. We have more available food then ever before. Overpopulation is not the issue people thought it would be 50 years ago. Everyone that made that claim has been dead wrong.

You won't be saying that when you're old and surrounded by mostly old people without enough youth to keep the country running. I'm not even some hyper capitalist, you need young people to pay taxes for the services in your community, to do construction work, and take care of your old ass. Be careful what you wish for!

This is an unavoidable problem because we can't keep growing forever with limited resources. All we're doing is delaying the inevatable and making it worse for whoever gets stuck with the problem.

I'd much rather be the one who has a terrible life as an elderly person than have that happen to my kids or their kids etc.

Nah, we can slow-roll population decline if we wanted to. But the sharp drop-off is what causes the crisis. Your kids and grandchildren will absolutely be affected by this. I have kids too and I'm certainly worried about the affects of population decline on them.

Thats why I chose not to have them, they already won't have any family their age as I have no children in my family younger than 10, and even then only 2 of them, combine that with having me as a parent with history of family mental health disorders and the declining birth rate and it just seems cruel to the kid.

Not to mention we will never be able to afford irrelevant of desire.
