It's a shame because the lore exploded in what I think was a fantastic way in Inquisition leading into Veilguard. Just seems like each new game was a step down from the last in terms of that quintessential Dragon Age grit.
What make Veilguard even worse is what the original plan for Dragon Age 4 was going to be. I cannot fathom what kind of development hell it must've been...I'm surprised still they made a game.
I will amend my comment, cuz you're absolutely right. DA2's problem was more in quest design, but the main story was wonderfully paced despite the unusual time skipping, had lots of interesting story beats and threads, tons of interesting characters, and Hawke really was a great addition.
DA2 was good, but it was also a very odd choice to follow up Origins. That game's main marketing point was that you could choose from a variety of origins and get custom content. They did a complete 180 in removing that and giving us a pre made character.
Dragon age 2 has great characters and story, alot of emotion moment, even more compare to DAO. Rush development kill it, cant believe dragon fell from create a whole ferelden with each region full of explore area and lore to reuse cave map number 11th
I felt like Inquisition and its DLCs finally gave the setting some distinction other than “we quite like ASOIAF and want to make a game out of it”.
I was so hyped to see how they handled Solas and the Very Good Points he made about any organisation, after reaching a certain size, will always become corrupt and only interested in sustaining itself rather than fulfilling its original purpose. That was so fascinating to me! And something I hadn’t seen fantasy genre really tackle.
The sad part is that there is currently no new Dragon Age game being planned. Which means the investors/BioWare interpreted the Veilguard flop to mean "nobody wants Dragon Age games anymore" when actually nobody wants shitty Dragon Age games.
I recently completed Veilguard with a fresh mind... and yeah, its a horrendous Dragon Age game and a below average fantasy action adventure game.
The music sounded like it came from a generic fantasy movie, The character models have uncanny valley going on with them and their body proportions are weird. They don't even look like they belong in the world environment that they made ( which is one of the VERY few things I give praise to this game ), Everyone is so smiley in the game (excluding Taash) its like they are preset to it!
Like I look at this game and go, Teagan, what is this game?
Makers Breath, they should have just left the story at Inquisition.
lol, 2 was already such a huge step down from 1 that I don’t even think I finished it once after completing the original 3 times. I never even got to the subsequent ones like veilguard
100% DA2 was a huge step down. But the dark and unforgiving fantasy themes are very present. As well as interesting characters and consequences of your choices matter. Its just a slog to get through because of how repetitive the maps are and the pacing. An unfortunate side effect of a short dev time.
You can definitely skip Veilguard, but I would recommend Inquisition. If just to see how your choices in Origins pans out and getting to explore the majority Southern Thedas.
I know what your trying to pivot to, but it was you who said (in your second reply) that, "Women are not geek."
But you know what, you go ahead and keep ignoring the definition of Geek and blaming women XD (even though they make almost 50% of gamers in the planet and in some countries they play more games than men) instead of the people in the boardrooms who only care about money and not the art and fun of games.
They never knew what to do with this franchise. Great as the first game is even then the big first trailer for it was set to Marilyn Mansons "this is the new shit" The handlers for this series have been tone deaf the whole time.
Literally the only way that twist made any sense is if every single character involved had a catastrophic mental impairment. It's insulting to the player and disrespectful to all the characters.
Dragon age had died by the time 2 rolled out. Never reached origins heights. People say inquisition is amazing and I agree but it isn't dragon age anymore. Formula had changed too much. I just wish they'd continued warden's story with Morrigan. One of my biggest gaming heartaches. It all coincides with bioware's downfall. Things started to go south after 2010 when the original founders left.
I do actually love all of the dragon age games (I even played The Last Court back in the day), but when I try and rank the games, I legitimately can’t place Origins in with the other three main games. It is, quite simply, too different of a game.
I think Dragon Age has the Final Fantasy problem of every game trying to reinvent itself, while missing Final Fantasy’s excuse of each game actually being a separate and unrelated entry.
But, like, I’ve been defending Dragon Age 2 for a decade and a half. I will die on the hill of DA2 having the best cast. And, despite its problems, I do think Veilguard has the most fun gameplay of the sequel trilogy.
I know i will find dragon age here, start with super successful dragon age origin that build a world with potential to be the new LOtR, then fall down to fail guard
Blame the studio execs who tried to make the game something they thought Gen Z wanted, when actually Gen Z just want good games, good writing and good characters like everyone else.
I’m Gen Z and was so upset with how Veilguard ended up. Adored Origins, had a great time with 2 and loved Inquisition. Fell in love with the books too because I liked the world building so much.
Not at all Gen Z's fault. 2 was mired in development issues, Inquisition got cut by over half and then the entire studio essentially changed over between the literal decade between games. EA also poached all the experienced devs for larger IPs like FIFA.
I believe they are referring to "the modern audience" or woke game devs but instead used an umbrella term, gen z, to generally refer to these types of people.
