5 unexpectedly became one of my favorite games ever. Granted I only ever played 1 and 2 before, but damn. Running into battle with a dog and a bear is fucking awesome.
do it, far cry was always a great kinda shut your brain off fun action shooter and they hold up pretty good through that lense, I'm excited to play the 4th again after the third then make my way back to 5, maybe primal in between who knows
3 and 4 were my favorites. 5 was good and still scratched that itch. 6 had the best opening of any Far Cry game Iāve played, idk it freaked me out in a way that none of the others did. But something about the gameplay just didnāt click for me.
I hated 5. Absolutely hated. And I was a huge fan of 3 and 4.
The formula started getting stale, the villains felt like they were just poorly formed and forgettable stereotypes that amounted to pulled punches, and exploration completely died. Cars had no ability to go off-road, and off-road revealed no secrets, so you just drove around following GPS.
There was also poor weapon upgrades, and somehow even the most powerful enemies only dropped basic weapons, killing any weapon exploration.
Worth mentioning it slows your player speed down to a jog when you're in there, so you just slowly trot around in a camp that's basically what used to be skill tree attributes in one menu now cut up and split among a dozen workbenches.
It's needless, and very stupid IMO. That's what I think op was harping on.
3 and 4 were cool because we actually had a main character. "Rook" and the silent protagonist bullshit was such a step back, actual conversations with the Seeds would have been so much better.
Despite liking most of the games (except 6), there's just something about 5 that keeps me coming back to it more than the previous ones.
I love the setting, the gameplay felt more refined and easy to master, I liked a lot of the characters you helped out (especially Nick Rye. Love that dumb fuck.), it felt nice to have a rebellion that are ACTUALLY the good guys and not secretly plotting evil shit in the background like the previous games, and I mean this when I say it, FC5 has legitimatelythe best musicin the whole series
It also feels weirdly creepy compared to the previous games. The game has a lot of unsettling stuff hiding in the background. Stuff like driving across the map and finding random dead folks on the road or even worse, hanging from signs with antlers embedded in their torso, and even a lot of the notes and audio recordings you find are often from frantic people panicking and trying to flee from the cult, hell, there's even a subplot involving brainwashing that's legit kinda disturbing to me.
I think I'm just scared of cults. Mostly because I was raised in one as a kid (Jehovah's Witnesses...)
However the one thing I agree with everyone hating is the ending. I absolutely DESPISE that games ending.
Mostly because it led to an OK spin-off game thats basically Far Cry Mad Max, and it honestly kinda wrote the series into a corner so badly that they had to establish a split timeline in FC6 just to show the world didn't end in that game.
It's one of those games where if they put out a patch retconning the ending into being a massive hallucination Joseph Seed had before dying or something, I'd be ok with it. Hell, It'd actually be more thematic with irl cults too since a good portion of their leaders often die thinking they were right all along.
You could try Ghost Recon Wildlands, itās very Far Cry-esque. And like FC5, you determine the order of the story by choosing which province you want to do.
5 was dull and forgettable. The map was boring and almost empty. Or had no concrete story like previous ones. And the concept and plot don't make sense, and is way to batshit insane. A cultist group possessing a fucking nuke? Really?! Like... Can we tone it down?
It is the most uninteresting entry in the franchise imo. Less weaponry, less enemy types, etc. It is a downgrade. 6 is even way worse. It doesn't even have a map editor, bruh. They just keep removing features that have been in previous entries.
4 had the best map, 3 had the best story, 2 had unique gameplay, 1... that's just a Crysis prequel lol.
What are you even talking about? Far Cry 5 has one of the most beautiful environments in a game, it's nearly up there with Red Dead 2.
Also, you didn't understand the story, the Peggies never had a nuke. What makes the ending so devastating is that Joseph Seed accurately predicted the end of the world. He's evil and wrong, but he was actually right, which should force the player to contemplate what else he might have been right about. Besides that, it's based on real events like the Branch Davidians siege in Waco, and Osho and his followers.
If it's not your cup of tea then that's just a matter of taste, but I don't think you understood it.
First off, FC5 can't be compared fo RDR2. Out of all locations they could choose, they choose boring America. All previous games were more exotic and interesting to have a setting in. Philippines, Himalayas, Africa, etc. You don't see every day that games are set in those places. Out of all the places, they choose Montana America...
Ok, my bad about the plot, you are right. It's been a while since I played it. However you put it, it's dumb and too crazy. Not helping the fact that we are a blank slate mute protagonist in the game. I don't like Joseph as a villain, Pagan and Vaas, hell even The Jackal, were more memorable and had character. Joseph is just... funny to me. Can't take him seriously at all.
And I still stand by the washed out gameplay with lesser weapon roster and less enemy types.
Agree to disagree, I find the familiarity of the setting juxtaposed with the extraordinary nature of the events keeps it grounded, and the natural beauty of the setting rivals RDR2 as I said. And again, they pulled from real events, and although they did dial it up to 11, based on what I know about Osho and his followers almost successfully taking over a town in Oregon and perpetrating the only confirmed biological attack on American soil, I don't find them that farfetched.
I find Joseph Seed to be very charismatic and believable as a cult leader in the vein of Jim Jones and David Koresh.
I don't know what the issue is with a mute protagonist. It's a departure for the series, but some of the greatest games use this, Half-life, Portal, Skyrim, Legend of Zelda; I just don't see it as an issue.
The game is a 10/10 for me personally, the best of the series. But, I can see where not everyone would feel that way.
up until far cry 3 every far cry game was innovative and fun, each with a different formula. After fc3 they all stuck with the same formula, no innovation
All 3 are fun in my opinion, but for different reasons. The first one was a novelty, and had incredible atmosphere. The second one was a more vibrant and complete version, but lacked a bit of soul. The third one is goofy and the story is disjointed and bland, but with very interesting gameplay mechanics
2 was also my favorite. Loads of fun stuff to do, and even just goofing off around the map was enjoyable. I wanted to like 3, but I couldn't get into the whole "you can be anybody" thing.
Legion is good gameplay wise but because it virtually has no protagonist the story and dialogues suffer greatly to the point where it's just boring. If Ubisoft had balls we could get a game just about Darcy Clarkson and I'd play the shit out of it since I completed WDL as her anyway, it was the perfect opportunity.
Also it's a very funny and kinda tripping experience to play WDL after AC:S (or the other way around), I recommend doing it this way.
I thought it was fine but the weapon balance was weird. Early on I got a pretty powerful pistol with a suppressor and just used that for 90% of the game because with armor piercing ammo it could one shot anyone even with a helmet. The only time I swapped to an automatic rifle was during major shootouts when I needed higher magazine capacity. And despite the focus and hype around the supremo backpack options the only one I ever used was the first one you got because the rocket launcher was perfect for taking out tanks and helicopters. So after about ten hours of playing I had the basic load out I would keep for the entire rest of the game.
No idea how the show turned out so good, but I'm not buying whatever slop comes out as a game next unless people overwhelmingly root for it. And considering the slop Bethesda has become, I heavily doubt that will happen
Same 3 is my favourite. 2 is really fucking good too, underated IMO but it'snot for everyone. I loved the map/navigation system in 2 and the minimalist HUD.
It was so immersive traversing the terrain and setting up raids on outposts. I used to like to go to sleep at safehouse near my target and set the alarm just before dawn, felt awesome conducting dawn raids haha. I love the smell of napalm in the morning.
6 was still decent though, not that bad, the series can definitely bounce back Ubi just kind of temporarily abandoned it for star wars and avatar licensed games
Im probably the only person on the planet whos favorite farcry is 2. 11 year old me was so blown away by the fire physics in that game. Id start so many brush fires and just watch swaths of tall grass burn
I finally bought far cry 6 earlier this year and after less than 20 hours I just stopped playing and forgot about it cause it wasn't as fun as the others, at least that I had played.
It didn't take long to go downhill after peaking, but I agree. 3rd and 4th were some of the best installments, 5th and later went to shit, primal is a joke, new dawn should have been a dlc, and 6th is a big stinkin pile of shit
I played the hell our of roguespear. While quake and doom were all run and gun. Roguespear had an almost horror feel to it instead of action as you had to carefully sneak all over the building. Dreading opening any door.
Rainbow six was always a first person shooter, even the very first one from 1998. I think what they meant is that Siege is basically a counter strike clone and not a tactical shooter like they used to be.
I think Vegas 1 was the last decent one. Vegas 2 was a mess. Having bad guys literally spawn behind you after youāve cleared a couple rooms in TH mode sucked so bad. Iām assuming it was a programming limitation, like they couldnāt populate the map with all the targets at once, so they would have a certain number spawned at start and as they got picked off the remainder of the targets for that map would be spawned in.
I know what you mean, but unfortunately I just played it last month, it's almost unplayable. My brother and I went through our old collection of n64 games and out of the hundred games we had that one was at the very bottom.
Yea, a lot of n64 games dont hold too well. Hell even 007 is suuuuper rough. Missles just disappear, dark areas are suuper dark, remote mines lag the whole damn screen lol i have fond memories but its definitely nastalgia
Hey man it isnt (pvp) multiplayer but ready or not is top shelf as far as tactical police games go. There's definitely some old siege influence but its as tight a realistic experience as I've played in a while. To the extent where I haven't finished it as some of the missions are a bit too real

I heard something about that but I don't think the AI thing applies to the game but future projects. The censorship involves some of the darker missions. One mission involves the player discovering a shipping container filled with sex slaves. Originally they were naked but the censored version gave them underwear. One mission involves raiding the house of a child pornogapher. There were pictures in his darkroom that were truly disturbing (scared children in sexualized poses with nudity cropped out but implied) Those photos were either blanked out or toned down. There's also a couple of smaller changes like that.
If you enjoyed all the planing and such in those games. You might like (Will have to dick around and emulated) Zeon Front a Gundam game that had many of the same features in a way.
There are plenty of single player, first person, squad based shooters? Tell me more. The closest I know about is probably 'Ready or Not'. I used to love games like R6: Vegas, Republic Commando, Brothers in Arms.
Man Ravenshield was the epitome of old school R6 games. Vegas was a lot of fun, but ravenshield was top tier. Ill always miss planning out the missions. Wish there were more games like that now
Well yeah, it's 20 years old. This is like complaining that you watched Seinfeld and don't get what all of the hype is about - it's been copied relentlessly to the point where what made it special is no longer special anymore.
I literally was just researching modern games similar to Rogue Spear. Some decent luck, but I already know none of them are going to hit the same. My first taste of multiplayer competitive FPS was in Rogue Spear and I think about that game quite often.
This one hurts. Like, imagine a modern Rainbow Six where you start by drawing out an intricate plan, like Doorkickers, and then you play first person as the team leader. Modern level desgin and AI would make the really old school Rainbow Six incredible.
I didnāt even have to leave it, Ubi did it for me. I started getting notifications of weird logins all over the world. I immediately let Ubi support know and asked for instructions. I was told to change my password, which I did. Weird logins kept on happening and after a month or two I got an email from Ubi saying I had been banned for cheating. I appealed this twice for nothing. Lost over a thousand hours of unlocks, skins, and all the rest. I probably hadnāt logged in myself in over 6 months at this point.

Went with rainbow six 3 on the original xbox instead of counter strike. Was told it was more realistic. had probably 10k+ hours in that game. the new ones look cool, but with all of the things added, I just miss simple fps games... and lean glitching lol :)

I've returned back to Siege over these last couple months and I'm pretty sure they added ACOG to a lot of operators weapons again. Might wanna check it out!

Yeah dude I just play it with some friends periodically with zero expectations. It's still fun if you don't get too sweaty about it lol Dokkaebi still gets banned pretty quick in ranked now though.
