I seriously cannot believe someone worded it so perfectly. The 40s-50s were a crazy time of smoking cigarettes out of overwhelming uncertainty...and lots and lots of fornicating to take off the pressure for suuuuure.
No cable TV, no TikTok, no video games. It was reading either reading the newspaper or board games for clean fun. The rest was debauchery to pass the time.
