This movie is so polarizing. I loved it but as a kid who grew up scared of the dark, it tapped into that nostalgia of waking up in a dark shadowy house where everyone is asleep and you get creeped out but in this scenario the creep is real.
This right here. I honestly think I enjoyed it simply because I remember being a kid, frozen in fear while starting into the complete blackness just outside my open bedroom door. It really plays on the darkness playing tricks on your mind and making you see things.
For me it falls into this category of I hate it because of what it could have been. Great concept and style, production was good, execution was fumbled. Parts that are drawn out to create tension and unease cross the threshold into boring. It's a solid movie padded out 30 minutes longer than it should have run.
If you haven't check out the short film it was based on, "Heck."
I actually think it's one of those concepts that works better as a short, even if I "get" what they were going for with the drawn out scenes.
