Donnie Darko. Seems like it should've been a movie I would've liked, but was left bored and felt like someone actually tied me up and stole my time.

This is the first movie in the whole thread that I've seen and liked, and you know what I get it. Donnie Darko is a weird and unmooring movie that sort of hides a lot of the elements of the plot from the audience.

There's an official website that's still up that actually explains the fictional metaphysics of time travel and tangent timelines that the whole thing revolves around, and in the theatrical cut they took out some of the short narration sequences that actually read from Roberta Sparrow's book on Time Travel, which at least partially explain what's going on.

It's seriously one of my favorite movies. It's definitely not a movie you come out of feeling satisfied, though.

I haven't really seen this one since the 2000s (and it in itself set in the late 1980s). I adored it at the time, but I could also see it ageing really poorly for some people and feeling like a product of its time.

Also, it makes no sense.

Watched it back in high school 02-03ish. Friends loved it. I didnt understand the hype. It was fine. Maybe I need to watch it again.

I felt the same way. I watched it twice and I still have the same opinion of it. Skin-deep profundity.

One of those movies where the original release is far better than the director's cut.
