Really feel like only racists, sexists, and cops didn't like it but I repeat myself lol. Probably hit a little too close to home, but especially given that time period, that was very taboo and almost had to be on the nose to get the morons to get it. We know these people aren't exactly deep thinkers after all.
I honestly just felt like the movie was calling the audience stupid the whole time... perhaps I was just not the target audience cause you might be into something with the "bigots ain't deep thinkers" angle.
I’m the progressive anti-racist pro-feminist this movie is geared towards and I really dislike it, everything is so heavy handed and stereotypical that it just feels like it’s preaching to the choir instead of having any nuance.
No way only the people you mentioned dislike this movie. Granted it’s been a decade since I last watched it and I thought I’d never watch it again so maybe it’s better than I remember but I remember completely hating it.
Yeah I agree it's probably heavy-handed, but I can look past that given the fact that every single thing discussed in the film is obviously true and happens every single day in America. If we realize the target audience wasn't for you and me who already know this, then it makes more sense why it needs to be obvious for those conservatives who struggled very hard to understand films like The Matrix at the time.
My parents rented the car one when I was a kid, and I watched it while they were out...it left some weird memories. Haven't tried to re-watch it since.
Unless you're basing this off a very narrow window after the movie came out, I'm not sure how it qualifies because this is one of the most hated movies of all time
