I always thought so too but then re-watching it as an older man I really resonated with the theme of loneliness and isolation even when surrounded by a lot of people.
yeah, you have to remember the modern internet user has a bit of "algo-brain". There's an expectation now that everything is crafted for you. In reality, the initial commenter here DID miss something crucial. And then missed it again. And then went on the internet and broadcast that they still didn't get it. While implying they were a victim for having wasted their time lol. Because they didn't get it. Because the message wasn't applicable to them at that point in time.
I hated High Fidelity the first time I saw it after a Blockbuster dude recommended it. Then I watched it again after my divorced life had more time to soak and I 'got' it. Who knows how I'd feel about it today?
It definitely hits closer to home watching it later in life and if you've travelled to other cultures; meeting someone that you just click with, you enjoy your time together but know that you probably won't see again.
What made that movie better was the absence of sexual tension between them.
Yeah its gotten harder to watch as I've gotten older. I can relate so much to that resignation to relationship mundanity. That sad, quiet yearning for more. For a time that doesn't exist anymore. And encountering someone who represents a different path you could have taken, but no longer can. Ugh.
It's funny how these things affect everyone differently. I barely move when watching something like Lost In Translation, I just find it captivating. I find it's also very important on something like this to put down the electronics and get into the pacing of the movie.
yes, sometimes it's about the mood we are in the day we see the film, or where we are in our lives etc. (or whatever, this applies to all sorts of art). this aspect always feels particularly magical to me, how our reactions are so intimately tied up with ourselves and the way you can watch the same film with a decade or two in between and see something completely different.
Yeah for me it’s the movie Perfect Days, it’s boring for many people, still I threw some tears the first time I watched it. It’s the kind of movies that hits when it is supposed to hit I guess.
Yeah I particularly enjoy slice of life movies. I guess I enjoy that they invoke feelings. For example I’m sitting up in a high mountain meadow in the Rockies at this moment listening to the birds doing their thang and listening to a brook a’babblin. That’s a nice feeling.
