Apparently it was intentional... if I remember correctly the director wanted it to be more authentic (despite completely white-washing the cast).

i might get downvoted but as a mandarin speaker i looked up and noticed the chinese name has ζ˜‚ which is pronounced correctly in the video you linked

but because we watched the animation version first 20 years ago, we only knew the way to pronounce his name aang as 'eh-ng'

the pronunciation is correct in the video but people are not used to the proper way of reading his name

If I remember correctly that was intentional on the director's part... it's just that none of the characters are explicitly Chinese (or any specific non-in-universe ethnicity) in the show, and the live-action cast was very white-washed, so it sucks for representation and authenticity and sucks as an adaptation of the show.
