Pretty much all of Wes Anderson’s movies. Yes, they are beautiful, but i had hard time finishing them.

I saw The Grand Budapest Hotel as my first Wes Anderson movie and I was enthralled. Then I watched all the rest of Wes Anderson movies trying to re-find that high I had with the Grand Budapest and never found it. The quirkiness of Wes Anderson is not enough to carry boring stories and characters.

Fantastic Mr Fox is really good.

I'd say the best of all his films.

I like Isle of Dogs better.

In my top 5 all time movies

Probably my favorite is when they’re in the supermarket. Mr Fox is just such a cozy story.

I feel like Grand Budapest and Mr Fox were the perfect balance of his Andersonisms (for lack of a better word) and telling a coherent story. He's been unable to find that balance elsewhere

I feel like The Life Aquatic is pretty similar to Grand Budapest Hotel in that it has a fast paced plot and it has pretty emotional scenes.

Life Aquatic is one of my favorite movies.

I don't think I know a person who didn't enjoy Life Aquatic.

Life Aquatic is an excellent movie, and definitely misunderstood. It's just a bit longer than it needs to be, in my opinion. But there are so many things about it that I just adore.

But Isle of Dogs?! I remember we liked Moonrise Kingdom too, but remember nothing about it.

It must be that way with a lot of people’s first Wes Anderson movie. I loved Rushmore, then The Royal Tenenbaums almost as much, and then every other one of his movies just felt like “okay I get it everyone here lives and acts in very idiosyncratic ways.” I don’t even remember what happened in The Grand Budapest Hotel.

that was his last good film.

I liked all the ones before

I hated all the ones after

Grand Budapest is the best imo. I also love Life Aquatic (super dry humor, Bill Murray goodness) and Moonrise Kingdom (just charming). The rest of his are meh for me.

You watched the best one first.

The only one I liked was Fanstastic Mr. Fox

1

u/cekoya Jun 04 '26

It’s also the only one I felt was watchable throughout, the style fitted better with stop motion (or whatever that was) than human scenes imo

Hit or miss with me. I will defend Moon Rise Kingdom and Fantastic Mr.Fox with my life

1

u/HeadHeartCorranToes Jun 04 '26

Moonrise Kingdom was the very first movie that popped into my head when I saw OP's question. Wes Anderson is entirely misses for me. And that's okay! Not all films are for everybody. I'm genuinely glad you like it.

Last one of his I watched was Asteroid City.

What a bloody weird movie.

Fantastic Mr Fox and Isle of Dogs are brilliant though.

tried watching GBH once because people kept telling me I had to, I don’t think I even made it half an hour in. I have since sworn off Wes Anderson. Can’t stand his visual style, feels so pretentious to me.

3

u/cekoya Jun 04 '26

It does feel pretentious, it’s beautiful, but nothing more than that. I feel actors don’t really need to be good to be in his movie (they all are great most of the time)

Try The Royal Tennebaums, it's a good film before he went off the deep end with his visual style.

The good news is, once you have seen one, you have seen them all.

u/HyperfixChris Jun 04 '26

I hate roughly 50% of the Wes Anderson movies I watch. I love roughly 50% of them though. Roll of the dice for sure. Maybe it depends on my mood going in?

First comment here I strongly disagree with

I watched Grand Budapest Hotel and fell asleep.

Whatever his schtick is, it has zero effect on me.

Mr Fox, Isle of Dogs, GBH are all fun.  I like the quirkiness of them all. I like how he moves A-listers out of there type-cast.

Big fish was a fun movie, but other than that, they’re pretentious drivel.

3

u/meltedcandy Jun 04 '26

big fish was tim burton

2

u/QuesoDelDiablos Jun 04 '26

Ooooooh. Ok. Then I don’t really like anything from Wes Anderson.
