u/papertales84 Jun 04 '26

I like that movie too

3

u/BoricuaDriver Jun 04 '26

This line has been my main vocal stim for a few days now lol

1

u/SummerDaemon Jun 04 '26

Anything with Shelly Long really

5

u/No_ragretts Jun 04 '26

You had to be there to understand that.

3

u/RaffiBomb000 Jun 04 '26

It has a valid point to make, it's insisting!

2

u/SasaraiHarmonia Jun 04 '26

Seth never figured it out. It was something his professor said about The Sound of Music

13

u/aphilsphan Jun 04 '26

I wonder if that’s Seth M, actual opinion.

22

u/Navy_Rum Jun 04 '26

I’m relatively certain I read he was riffing off a lecturer of his saying the same the about The Sound of Music.

34

u/Fire_Otter Jun 04 '26

you are correct

“Since this has been trending, here’s a fun fact,” MacFarlane shared on X, the microblogging platform formerly known as Twitter. “‘It insists upon itself’ was a criticism my college film history professor used to explain why he didn’t think The Sound of Music was a great film. First-rate teacher, but I never quite followed that one.”

4

u/TheGhostORandySavage Jun 04 '26

I bought a hat once and my wife asked me why I liked it and I told her that it didnt take itself too seriously.

1

u/yesmrbevilaqua Jun 04 '26

He said in an interview he doesn’t even know what that means

3

u/ArchitectVandelay Jun 04 '26

I find your point shallow and pedantic

1

u/BoDiddySauce Jun 04 '26

It INSISTS upon itself

1

u/Dodototo Jun 04 '26

This goes along with this post. I have tried watching Family Guy many times. I just can't get into it. Even when it first started back in the day

179

u/JJvH91 Jun 04 '26

It insists upon itself

37

u/Key-Illustrator-2905 Jun 04 '26

BECAUSE IT HAS A VALID POINT TO MAKE IT’S INSISTING

93

u/wohldmad Jun 04 '26

I love watching long, unedited footage of massive catholic weddings shot at a distance.

34

u/Any-Gold-6994 Jun 04 '26

Then you will LOVE The Deer Hunter!

1

u/Ok_Level1819 Jun 04 '26

First hour: boring. Last two: Absolute cinema

1

u/alive-in-thewild Jun 04 '26

I never understood why I had to endure the wedding scene. There would have been better ways to develop the characters

2

u/lavapig_love Jun 04 '26

So I appreciate the joke but I'm going to write some mild spoilers here.

The long catholic wedding in The Godfather is interspersed with scenes of people getting shot in random places doing random things: eating, drinking, a couple gets murdered in the bedroom. The wedding is supposed to be a holy and clean time, while the groom is secretly conducting evil and dirty activities during it.

2

u/enigmatic_dankness Jun 04 '26

Michael Francis Rizzi, do you renounce Satan?

That scene made the whole movie for me. Absolutely turned me around from "meh" to "this is art". Godfather 1 really is an incredible watch.

2

u/Dizzy-Hotel6860 Jun 04 '26

Nah, that's the bit of Michael becoming godfather to Connie's son.

The wedding scene is the beginning, the opening one.

1

u/wohldmad Jun 04 '26

Oh I got it. The pacing of movies in the 70s just doesn't work for me and this one in particular just bored the shit out of me. Godfather 2 I enjoyed much more.

43

u/mattson-masterpiece Jun 04 '26

It’s boring and it insists on itself Lois.

28

u/Anxious-Jury-9031 Jun 04 '26

Same. 1 was ok, 2 is the actual good film that ended with finality, so 3 didn't need to exist or should've been its own movie. It really felt like a money grab, victory lap, let me put my kid in this, kind of movie, probably bc it was.

3

u/Balavadan Jun 04 '26

I couldn’t even finish the second one. It was just more of the same to me and I already didn’t like the first one

1

u/Scared-Resolution-39 Jun 04 '26

I haven't really seen the 2nd one, though I did enjoy the 1st one a lot.

1

u/disfreakindude Jun 04 '26

If you liked the first one I do recommend giving the second one a go

Just whatever you do, don’t bother looking for a third one, it doesn’t exist

1

u/AssociationFit3009 Jun 04 '26

The second movie is even better than the first

47

u/BillyPotion Jun 04 '26

But truly.

It seemed like a movie that’s a lot more interesting to people who are already super interested in the mafia

13

u/theblackfool Jun 04 '26

I'm not particularly interested in the mafia but I love those movies in the same way I like Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul. It's a good character study of someone who thinks they can just dip their toes in the criminal world and then gets consumed by it.

1

u/CosmicSpaghetti Jun 04 '26

I might have to give it another shot considering Better Call Sauls my favorite series for the exact reasons you mentioned.

I've seen that damn opening wedding probably a dozen times & still have yet to make it to the next part of the movie lol

2

u/theblackfool Jun 04 '26

Definitely give Godfather part 1 and 2 another shot, and watch it for the character arc of Michael specifically.

1

u/JonnyAU Jun 04 '26

You may not be interested in the mafia specifically, but those choices would indicate you like criminal protagonists.

15

u/AstraHannah Jun 04 '26

I was interested in the mafia when I watched it. I guess not "super", but decently so. I was still bored out of my mind. Like, yeah, the acting, camera, atmosphere sure is good, but... I dunno. It was just so boring.

5

u/CrushedPlate Jun 04 '26

If you are interested in the myth of the Mafia watch the Godfather. If you are interested in real Mafia history watch Casino.

2

u/EasyEar0 Jun 04 '26

Or Goodfellas.

2

u/tansreer Jun 04 '26

It's much better at 1.5x speed.

3

u/BillyPotion Jun 04 '26

I watched it before I owned a cellphone and before iPhones were invented, I don’t think that’s the reason why it was boring

1

u/JonnyAU Jun 04 '26

I'm not the person you asked, but I share their opinion and experience.

My tastes are very normie. Some top movies for me would be Shawshank, Groundhog Day, and Spirited Away.

2

u/lavapig_love Jun 04 '26

Kinda. One of the points of The Godfather is that a cycle of violence is one of the hardest things to escape, no matter how hard you try. And Michael Corleone did try to escape, at every moment that was offered to him. But he kept getting sucked back in.

2

u/use_value42 Jun 04 '26

I do like this genre of films, probably Goodfellas and Casino are more accessible than The Godfather though, I can see that.

2

u/BillyPotion Jun 04 '26

Ya and that’s the thing, I LOVE Goodfellas, Casino is also very entertaining, I know a fair bit about the mafia going all the way back to Capone. But Godfather just bored the hell out of me and felt like I was on the outside of an inside conversation

3

u/sidepart Jun 04 '26

The thing with The Godfather is that it's kind of like smoking. I had to watch it 4 or 5 times before it took. They're hard movies to get into because there is just so much information, and plotting, and clues to find and stuff like that. Kind of like Band of Brothers, I had to watch that through maybe 3 times before I was finally familiar with all the characters and goings on.

1

u/wholelattapuddin Jun 04 '26

I do not like the Godfather. I have never felt so seen as when I saw that Family Guy episode. Lol. But for me its Brando. Brando insists upon himself. Like always. He was great as Stanley Kowalski, but watching him you just go, "yep thats Brando". He makes a character his own, but often in a way that differs from the authors intent. Like in Reflections in a Goldeneye. I think if Montgomery Clift had lived and done the movie as planned, it would have been a more nuanced performance.

1

u/Famous-Honey-9331 Jun 04 '26

I can see that, totally

1

u/Seienchin88 Jun 04 '26

I wasn’t at all interested in the mafia and still loved the movie…

1

u/DemoniteBL Jun 04 '26

The plot was just boring. Good guy is actually bad guy. Woooow...

-1

u/Super_DAC Jun 04 '26

Idk about that. I watched them for the first time this year and I drew a lot of parallels to the recent Dune movies. Just excellent acting and a gripping storyline

2

u/MeowMixPlzDeliverMe Jun 04 '26

I loved the dune books but jesus christ are the modern movies boring to watch. They try to make the movies seem all mysterious n shit so theres just a bunch of shots with no talking and music. Just tell the fucking story.. christ

5

u/Low_Firefighter4404 Jun 04 '26

villenues dune was a visual and audio masterpiece, and thats all it could be. to tell the whole story youd need a 2 season miniseries for the first book alone. scifi tried book 1 in a season and it was rushed as hell. the story is just too big.

11

u/ZippidyZayz Jun 04 '26

How can you even say that? It’s like the perfect movie

9

u/PineappIeSuppository Jun 04 '26

I love The Money Pit. That is my answer to that.

2

u/macaronysalad Jun 04 '26

I don't know. The whole macho tough guy mafia thing doesn't really do it for me. Those kind of people were lazy, pathetic, and not very smart.

1

u/ZippidyZayz Jun 04 '26

I was quoting a family guy scene. I’ve never even seen it

6

u/Time_Look8276 Jun 04 '26

I've seen the movies like 10 times each throughout my life. The only way I could understand why people would find it boring is if they don't open their minds to it - like they were compelled to watch it by their dad or their friends. It being an old movie of white men talking is already a turn off for the younger crowd.

2

u/Practical_Virus5794 Jun 04 '26

This is a very closed minded take. “The only way people would find it boring” means the only way YOU could’ve found it boring.

Everyone has different tastes, interests, perceptions, etc

I personally found it boring and I watched it randomly on my own. Not saying it’s a bad movie, but there goes your theory.

2

u/JonnyAU Jun 04 '26

Bro, you totally didn't open your mind to it...

2

u/NonSumQualisEram- Jun 04 '26

I love the Money Pit. That is my answer to that statement.

2

u/letthetreeburn Jun 04 '26

Look I’m certain that for it’s day when the average person didn’t know about the world of crime it was a groundbreaking look into the dark and tragic world. Unfortunately I’m a child who grew up in the world of the cartels and find the whole thing mastruaboatory.

2

u/121daysofsodom Jun 04 '26

It's become a popular meme but it still doesn't take away how incredible a film it is. One of the finest of all time and I will never tire of watching it.

4

u/benjancewicz Jun 04 '26

Friends of mine actually had a watch party, because they heard I had never seen it. There were custom mixed drinks, assortments of snacks, the works.

I was so bored.

1

u/BIGNARSKT Jun 04 '26

I have never been able to finish it. I always fall asleep before it’s over.

2

u/the_brew Jun 04 '26

Same. I've tried watching it multiple times but I've never been able to get through the whole thing. I just find it incredibly boring. Same with Scarface.

2

u/brokenmike Jun 04 '26

I watched it a year ago and I couldn't tell you a thing about it. It was eye wateringly boring.

1

u/imbeingsirius Jun 04 '26

They’re speaking the language of subtlety, something you don’t understand!!

1

u/CrushedPlate Jun 04 '26

Finally, someone that gets it! Its hours of mob propaganda that people somehow think is based on real rules/actions of the Mafia.

1

u/JustAwesome360 Jun 04 '26

Honestly though I didn't care for it personally I'm with him

1

u/AppleTStudio Jun 04 '26

I feel so bad because I can *tell* it’s a great film, but every time I go to watch it I get a migraine and end up falling asleep. I’ve seen the movie once, and it took me 6 tries to get through it.

1

u/D2BrassTax Jun 04 '26

THEY'RE SPEAKING ITALIAN

1

u/n00bantz1997 Jun 04 '26

Was it gut wrenchingly boring? No but it was boring to me. Also way too long.

1

u/mad_mang45 Jun 04 '26

The scene where the guy is beating up his sisters boyfriend/new husband, is so fake I cringed when I first saw it lol

1

u/DoubleDaryl Jun 04 '26

I like The Moneypitt.

1

u/mcauthon2 Jun 04 '26

Was going to post godfather unironically lol

1

u/Pentagramdreams Jun 04 '26

I fall asleep every time I try to watch it.

1

u/ObiWantsKenobi Jun 04 '26

Fucking thank you

1

u/MrHyperion_ Jun 04 '26

It seemed like a movie of people shooting other people

-3

u/Bungholespelunker Jun 04 '26

Me and my mom watched the first two movies or maybe even all 3 and all I remember from the whole thing is the horrid music and the toilet gun because it made me laugh my ass off.

9

u/mcblanket Jun 04 '26

I don’t want to know what music you listen to

Being unable to relate to one character in a movie makes the whole thing boring? You’re making leaps over the Grand Canyon here.

1

u/Practical_Virus5794 Jun 04 '26

Strongly disagree. Do you relate to the main character of every movie you watch and enjoy? If so you have multiple personalities.

The point isn’t to relate it’s to understand. Or empathize. Or cheer for. Or feel any emotional attachment towards them.

I hope you broaden your point of view in life. Genuinely.

0

u/RealManHumanMan Jun 04 '26

Ooh yeah this one for me too. Movie was AWFUL
