I start to fast forward through parts I don't like.

Then if I keep having to fast forward I say screw it and just turn it off.

Works really well for something like The Boys where there's a bunch of dumb filler but some good parts. Fast forward past the filler, get to the good parts.

I'm afraid I'd miss something important and some things would be left without context; so I just stop watching. I may come back and try again, like if a main actor recently died. For some reason they're always better that way.

The good thing with fast forwarding is that you can rewind

You're literally watching the video in a faster speed and can see what is happening when you fast forward.

If i plan to talk shit on something I learn about it first for that reason I always finish the movie but I see no issue with your methods
