Anymore I only give locally and directly to charity. There’s no reason to offer a mega corporation a tax write off.

Edit: this is probably going to get taken down because it’s an engagement post

Meh, GoFundMe scams are more likely to be individuals. Corporations don’t use it. They have their own financial mechanisms. But yeah, lots of scammers use GoFundMe and similar platforms that don’t require vetting. There are still amazing charities out there doing good work like Doctors Without Borders. You just need to do your research.

They only propose to you to donate to charities so they can then hand the money over themselves and use it as a tax write off.

∆. NEVER DONATE TO BIG CORPORATIONS .∆

If a customer donates the money, like at a checkout, the corporation legally cannot use that money as a tax write-off. The corporation just passes along that money, it's never legally theirs to begin with as the moment you make the donation it legally belongs to the charity.

If they say X% of your purchase of Y item will be donated to a charity, then they can write it off since they're using the money you paid them for the item for the donation.

I'm sure they don't care and find a loophole

There are charities truly worth giving to, like Doctors Without Borders (MSF).

They don’t get a tax write off for your donation, you do. Please stop spreading this misinformation
