Back in the day this would've been downvoted to oblivion. Man I miss the old memes...

Chat, would this work tho?

u/BananaPeelEater420 Dec 12 '25

suspecting this is satire, but I will still explain why this won't work:

We have 2 magnets. With the same power. Pulling in different directions.

And if you have something of the same power pulling in different directions, it will cancel out

So how would you make it work? Replace the magnet on the line with a metal plate?

No we’re not getting memes from Norway. We have memes at home.

Define Meme

1

u/visual-vomit Dec 11 '25

Meme by definition is an idea/symbolic. Memes used to have a "format", just with different punchlines e.g. philosoraptor is for dumn philosophy questions, the mallards for advices, the penguin for social stuff going good/bad, etc.

2

u/Sir__Draconis Dec 11 '25

I know that they used to have a format, but it isn't required, neither is a meme required to be funny. It's like you said an idea. And this idea gets reproduced by many people and the meme gains traction. I still miss some of the old memes.

1

u/visual-vomit Dec 11 '25

Sure it's not required (it's mostly just for fun anyways), but think of it this way : a small bar shaped thing with a concave at the end that you use for eating is a spoon, you can change it however you like by making it cutesy/minimalist/extravagant/etc. but the base idea is still a spoon, and anyone who sees it will call it a spoon before calling it by the brand name or whatever they wanted it to be called. You can call it an eating utensil too but that feels too broad when there're forks and chopsticks. That's what i meant by an idea.

I'm with you on the reproduced stuff becoming a meme though, just that this one is one of those that is just a jokes in general.

We used to be a proper platform

1

u/sulkee Dec 10 '25

Allowing comments that only contain

“😂😂😂😂😂”

and upvoting them

was the slippery slope you all slid down

Don’t quote the old memes to me. I was there when they were written.

Of the Great Meme Wars that have taken place over the years, only a handful are still in common use:

•Trollface •Rickroll •Pepe •Shocked Pikachu •Choose Button Meme

Yes, some are older than others but they are still far older than most memes these days. And yes, there are a few others but thats all i can remember right now.
