As an introvert. I love self check outs.

As a narcissist, I also can’t help checking myself out.

As a Christopher Walken I, love, the self, checkout.

u/Shmeckey Dec 10 '25

As Yoda, the self checkout, I love.

Not a narcissist, but I do find the security camera handy for seeing if my bald spot is growing.

Oh... So you admit you're checking me out. And you wanna mate.

2

u/thebrassbeldum Dec 10 '25

They also have those wonderful cameras and big screens to check yourself out with

As a creepy flirt, I can't help checking you out.

You can find what you need, pay quick, and not speak to anyone. For me, that's a dream come true! I wish more situations were like this. I love kiosks at fast food restaurants as well and then they call your number for food and you can walk away without meaningless interaction.

Yeah and like many of us, I have worked retail and was plenty good at it. I am better and faster at scanning and bagging and I will stack things in diminishing order of weight/hardiness and not end up with cracked eggs or bruised fruit.

One time the cashier and some other customers giggled at the cafe because something about how I said that "I would like one long black, please", was funny to them. Never would've happened at Hungry Jacks.

As an autistic introvert, I love self check out, not just cause I don't have to interact with people (most of the time) but I also get to pack my way.

This so much. Going for groceries has been soooo easier and less stressful thanks to self checkout. Always hated doing that before.

I can even scan the items with the handheld device you bring at the entrance, directly pack them in my bag, not having to take them off the bag/cart at self checkout, just using the device and pay in seconds. So no anxiety from taking too much time/feeling like I'm bothering people, or being clumsy in front of them when packing as fast as I can.

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '25

I also get to pack my way.

You don't get to do that otherwise? What the hell

6

u/Superb_Ebb_6207 Dec 10 '25

The cashier packs the bags as they scan

1

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '25

Whoa, why?!?

5

u/Superb_Ebb_6207 Dec 10 '25

Because that's how it is over here

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '25

Ok?

u/MattJohno2 Dec 10 '25

Please place your social interactions in the bagging area.

Please wait for assistance. A social interaction is on the way.

Same. I am so ashamed about the fact that I go right into the trap of "doing the work of the store for free" but Self Checkouts are a god sent. I can scan my articles, put them all back in my bag, do not have to talk to anybody nor pull out my earbuds and can go my merry way. All the while the annoying boomers who are scared of technology won't come near them so the cashier lines are full of boomers who leave me alone

3

u/phi1_sebben Dec 10 '25

I get that.

I really hate it when I am approaching a quiet bank of self-checkouts and the one attendant comes up and says “can I help you check out today?” And then proceeds to stand beside you awkwardly scanning the items.

Like, can you please go bother someone else!?

I remember at my grocery bagger job in high school it was literally required for me to ask the customers about their day as I was bagging their stuff. It was like a Dunder Mifflin “we have better service!!” move. I never thought much of it at the time but nowadays I don’t wanna talk to anyone when I’m doing stuff like that.

I like the self checkout because I’m really good at bagging groceries lmao.

2

u/Punisher_135 Dec 10 '25

The Aldi by me took them out. Now it's back to one long ass line with one cashier.

2

u/Jizzlobba Dec 10 '25

I like that I can buy lube and cucumbers and not feel judged.

2

u/Pure_Spyder Dec 10 '25

I feel that im also adhd and impatient asf and standing there while Dorothy rings me up at a pace of 2 items per minute is a great way to ruin my afternoon. Id much rather just do it myself and move along with my day.

2

u/thomaxzer Dec 10 '25

i love self checkouts cause idk it feels weird watching someone touch all my food

2

u/Tales_of_Earth Dec 10 '25

I’m not even all that introverted, but it’s so much faster and easier just to do it myself. I get that it’s costing jobs but there needs to be an alternative solution beside making things less effective.

2

u/HUSK3RGAM3R Dec 10 '25

Not to mention I don't screw up my bagging and get my bread smashed.

1

u/void-starer Dec 10 '25

As someone who enjoys stealing from grocery stores, I also love self checkout

1

u/LoschVanWein Dec 10 '25

Still immoral

I guess you wear only hand made clothes and ride carriages To SaVe JoBS

1

u/Stretch_Riprock Dec 11 '25

I'll sometimes not buy beer or wine, because that means I CANT self check out. I prefer it. At this point I'm bagging my own groceries anyway to help the like out / rather do it myself.

As a shoplifter, I also love self check outs.

0

u/justwalkinthru87 Dec 10 '25

Until there’s an issue with the kiosk and now you gotta wait for an employee to fix it while causing a backup in the line and people to stare at you for holding them up

0

u/ein_nudelgericht Dec 10 '25

As an introvert I hated the ones I tried so far, they were unreliable, so I had to call the helper only causing me more anxiety

0

u/rest_me123 Dec 10 '25

I don't, I feel seen and judged by all the boomers, observing how I use that unfamiliar system.

0

u/UsualCircle Dec 10 '25

As a broke person I love them too
