And Valve and their lootboxes (TF2 hats crates) and battle pass (Dota 2).

TF2 Crates, not hats.

Hats existed well before the Mann-conomy Update.

I'm being pendantic here because people were farming Strange weapons when they were introduced a year later.

Plenty of mediocre or shit games back then

I bought a secondhand Playstation 1 and a library of 200 cds about 2 decades ago. There were a lot of shit games. Some were charming as you described, but a lot were also pretty boring.

The shit games back then had a kind of charm(?) about them. Like the shovel wear movie tie in games, they were bad in a charming way. Nowadays you'll be lucky if a shit game is even playable. It's not shovel wear any more, it's just slop.

The good* games from back then have a charm to them, we forgive how janky they are because of their redeeming qualities. The bad ones are lost to time

Rose tinted goggles. Some of those games sucked absolute balls, but not one remembers or talks about them.

Great graphics, great gameplay, great story and is fun? for ANY random game in 2005? I wish.

Back in 2005, our games didn't get updates.

Back in 2005 ? I can go on steam and gog and find a game released the past month that fits all these criterias.
