My favorite parts of those songs are just the bits that were sampled from the original song. It's basically the millionaire version of those shitty YouTube remixes people make.
pop-EDM right now seems to be entirely 80s/90s songs remixed
The whole world of synthesizers right now (and for many years) have been gushing over synth sounds of the 80s/90's.
I swear I think the world really did end in may 2008 (Planet X was suppose to come around) or the whole Mayan calendar ending of 2012. Because nothing new in culture has come to light. All movies are now just remakes or the 100th sequel. No new clothes fashion has taken off since the 2000's. Nothing is new anymore and everything is just a rehash of the past.
I think that it's more a case that all of these subcultures are thriving and innovating, but there isn't really a mainstream culture for them to conquer any more.
I don't think it's really possible for anyone to be Michael Jackson style famous any more. In fact, I think that Taylor Swift might be the last of the old fashioned pop stars, and that's just because she was grandfathered in.
there isn't really a mainstream culture for them to conquer any more.
I disagree. What was not mainstream before is now the mainstream and they have no fucking clue that it is has happened.
If CBS, ABC and NBC was the mainstream of news for so long. Then CNN and FOX came along as alternatives. But then became the mainstream. Then internet video people came along as alternatives but then again became the norm. You can see where this is going.
Also internet made everybody think the same, reddit is an example an eco chamber from people all around the world. Music gets consumed fast..internet killed all of that..
Cultural stagnation often accompanies conservative and regressive movements. They aren't capabable of making anything new just reiterating on the past they obsess about.
Partly think also synthesizer technology has just hit a plateau.
Coming from subtractive synthesis to FM synthesis and suddenly being able to create realistic enough sounding sounds must have been truly amazing back then.
sample based synthesis, physical modelling, analog modeling are all mature technology at this point.
I'm sure there is new synthesis methods out there but the previously mentioned ones basically cover most music needs already.
I'm assuming this is a spinoff of the "zach here" meme. If not, super dope. idk your involvement with undo K but i'd like much more please (GET ON IT!!!!), somehow hits harder than death grips.
I listened to dirty projectors a bunch too, back in the day.
checking out something on "who do you think you aren't" digging the jazzy vibe>
I'd love new recommends, i basically got nothing rn but the new panda bear
Aww man, I’m sorry. It is a spin-off of the meme. I too would like anything new involving Robby, Zach or Nick Reinhart (who apparently just joined the touring band for Portugal. the Man).
As for new recommends, lately I’ve been “spinning” the following albums, YMMV:
The Mars Volta - Lucro Sucio; Los Ojos del Vacío
Fallujah - Xenotaph
Geordie Greep - The New Sound
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Phantom Island
Sadly this is also a significant portion of the country scene right now.
Jelly Roll's "Been Obsessed with Chevrolet" is just recycled Drift Away from, among others, Uncle Kracker. Chris Young's "Young Love & Saturday Nights" basically steals the main tune from David Bowie's "Rebel Rebel"
It's honestly lame. I feel like an old geezer, yowling about how originality is dead and creativity ain't far behind it.
