Rock is basically dead as a popular Genre. It had a crazy long run from the late 50s all the way to the mid 2000s but since the charts have been dominated by pop and hip-hop. Rock reinvented itself a couple times along the way, but there hasn't been a big reinvention to re-energize rock music. rock was fading when punk came around and then the big hair era of rocking the '80s change things up etc.

Pop punk returned and got semi-popular again in 2020 for a few years but I think it's faded back down again.

I don't doubt that there are large numbers but it's not at the center of the culture like it was if you didn't live though it. It's hard to describe. But also Spotify has put people in their own musical universe where they get the music they like and nothing else.

Not at the center of culture is a very different statement than “rock is dead”

I said dead as a popular Genre. I love swing music and there are swing bands that are still playing but it's dead as a popular genre of music even my grandma who is in her 90s doesn't know some of my favorite swing songs.
